GE Capital Extended Warranty

Recommended Posts

I am debating putting an extended warranty from GE Capital on my 2003 C4s (27,000 miles on vehicle). Does anybody have any experience with GE Capital Warranty Services? The cost for the additional 3 years and additional 36,000 miles is ~ 3500. Supposedly this is the bumper to bumper 5 Star coverage (everything but wear and tear items etc). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! The local dealer, Herb Chambers, uses GE for all of their warranties. Herb Chambers has over 30 dealershps in the area and they are quite reputable.

Thanks!

I don't know anything about the GE Capitol warranty, but I do know that GE capital is a stabile company. I would compare thier coverages and pricing to www.warrantydirect.com.

Make sure it is an exclusionary warranty, meaning they list all things that are NOT covered and you can assume all others are covered. Do not confuse wear and tear times (brake pads, wiper blades, tires, etc) with items being covered for wearing out prematurely (alternators, A/C compressors, etc.).

I purchased a warranty through my dealer from EasyCare. My car is a 2000 C4, so it went out of warranty in 2004 with about 32,000 miles. The EasyCare was their "Gold" version, not quite bumper to bumper but good coverage. It goes for 4 additional years, and up to 75,000 miles, with a $200 deductible. Cost was about $2,500 (a good portiuon of which goes to the selling dealer). The price varied according to the deductible and the tyep of coverage. Unfortunatley I am out of town now so can't check exactly what the coverage is of the price, but it was alot less than $3,500. So far it has paid for a RMS replacement no questions asked, or even an inspection. Also paid through my Indy, not just through the dealer ( the dealer charges $149/hr, the Indy $99/hr and I was having other work done at the same time, the clutch needed replacing so the RMS covered the R&R of the trans, I papid a couple of hours to upgrade the throughout lever/bearings). You might want the check out EasyCare, the seem pretty good.

Just a quick note on Easy Care. They are owned by Ford but Ford is selling them to a private equity group - Stone Point Capital/Trident IV. They just announced this yesterday.

That may not mean a thing, but I'd be nervous about an investment group handling my service contract...

Hi

I think the best policy out there is found via this link

www.insurancepoliciesonline.com

look under auto warranty. They will not warranty porsches over 30 k miles but do not verify mileage ever and so the is some room to manipulate. i have had their platinum warranty on three german cars (Porsche and mercedes ) NEVER an issue getting approval and payment in full at dealer rates , never sent anyone to inspect!!

Both dealers are amazed at this coverage for the price and asked for the web link.

Best check of a comprehensive policy ... ask if they cover your keys from failure. This policy does (PLATINUM) and new porsche key cost about $300!!!!

Take a platinum coverage with $50 or $100 deductible and negotiate with the dealer to comp it when you have any big ticket repair ... say over $500 . They usually go for it.

Need to be already covered by a policy or a new ownership within last month ( EVen if out of warranty )

It is underwritten by CUNO MUTUAL
