new owner warranty question

Hi All...I am new to this forum, just bought a 2002 C4S, taking delivery in a couple of weeks. I am debating on whether or not I should buy an extended warranty or just "roll the dice." My local dealer quoted me $3651 for a five year 60k mi (additional miles, car presently has 28k) with a $100 deductible. Is this MY fairly reliable? My Mercedes G Wagon has been one service visit after another and without a warranty I'd be getting killed. Should I get the warranty or take a pass? Thanks in advance, cannot wait to get behind the wheel of this car!

Sounds high to me. I had a 5 year/100,000 miles for $2495.

Yeah, for that price, it's a tough call.

Personally, I'd take the risk. I bought mine out of warranty at about 70k miles.

But at that high mileage, it's probably pass the danger of a bad engine.

Other than the engine, and transmission, other break downs are not that "catastrophic".

I think the 02 C4S's are pretty solid. Good Luck!

I would want to know the details of what the warranty covers. Maybe pretty comprehensive bumper to bumper. Is it Porsche dealer that is offering the warranty? If you plan on tracking the car, I would buy it. It is high, I think mine was closer to Loren's number for the Porsche certified extended warranty. But small things can add up in the car, a window motor here, a small leak there, radio acting up, $1000 can come pretty fast in these cars. Could make the warranty look like a good investment.

Thank you all for your input...sounds like it might be worth me shoppping around for a better priced plan....after owning a G Wagon I am afraid to own any vehicle outside of a warranty. Is anyone aware of any reputable warranty providers that serve CA? It hasn't been easy finding anything online, which is why I originally contacted my local dealer....thanks again for your input, much appreciated.

I agree with others it is a tough call at that price. One piece of info that may make the decision easier is to review the service history of the car. You have probably read countless articles on the infamous RMS issue and if that has been already replaced then reoccurance is a possibility. I also have a 2002 C4S and have the extended warranty through Fidelity Warranty in FLorida. It was a warranty that was tranferrerable when I bought the car from original owner and they have been great so far. Owner stated the cost was about the price Loren and Izzyquoted as around $2500. Fedelity's number is 800-327-5172 for customer service. I believe they are number one ( if not #2) as a independent underwriter of extended warranty's not sold by manuafcturers.

Can't you get it as CPO? It's two years from the dealer and if any problems they'll show up in the first two years.
