Hi there, I'm new here and own Porsches other than the 944, so I'm not up to speed on some things.

I've just purchased a complete rear suspension from a dismantler by phone for a custom car project. This came out of an 86' 944, and I was assured it would have the aluminum calipers. It arrived today and . . you guessed it . . Iron calipers. At least it has the alloy trailing arms, and is otherwise complete. The seller wants to make the deal right, and proposed that if I would do the foot-work to determine from which exact models the correct calipers can be found, he would source and provide them without further cost.

From what I can see, the following 944 models would be proper donors:

1986 – 1989 944 Turbo S and 944 Turbo

1987 944S , 16valve, non Turbo, but must have ABS option.

1988 944S , 16valve, non Turbo, All

1989 on, All models

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, does the aluminum caliper require its own 'backing plate' or caliper mount plate? (one different than the iron caliper uses).

Is the dust shield the same for both types of calipers, or different?

Also, I have heard that a few of the later model 944's had the same front brakes as the 928, but I can't find any reference to rear aluminum calipers shared between the late 944 and other Porsche models. If there are other Porsche models that shared the 944 rear aluminum caliper's part number, this would expand the pool of possible donors and increase my chances of getting the parts.

Any help here would be great. My sincere thanks to all of you.

the 88 944 turbo S and the 89 944 turbo had the front calipers of the 928

if the rear suspension you got has the cast iron calipers, it probably doesn't have the sport torsion bars or sway bar
