Hello,

I'm very new to this site, so apologise if this question has been asked before .... I'm assisting my brother in law to touch up his 993 (I'm the techie, he's not...) - in regards to the headlights, how do you:

(1) Replace the globe inside? Unlike normal front engined cars, there does not appear to be any access points to the headlamp assembly! (apart from an L-lever which I'm not particularly sure what it does). I do not have the owners manual, which obviously does not help.

(2) Adjust the head lamp ie. can I increase the default throw distance of the headlight slightly (as I've done with my mate's VW Golf and my own Camry, using the screws inside the headlamp assembly)? We drive in the outback of South Australia and find the lights are way too low and dangerous when we have to turn off the high beam when there is oncoming traffic. The headlamp headlamp throw dashboard setting is already at "-1", ie. the headlamps cannot be adjusted any higher.

I also intend to upgrade the globe in the headlamp with Narva-50 Plus globes - I don't know what you call them in the States, but these globes in Australia are great in that they add 50% of light output using xenon gases in the globe, but they do not add extra heat. I added them to my Camry and while they're not quite HID style performance, they're a LOT better than the standard yellow halogen globes.

Anyhow, if someone is able to point me to how to change the headlamp globes in the 993 in the first place, I'll be on my way to some happiness ...

Thanks

pannach.

Hi,

Try pulling back the carpet on the sides of your trunk to expose a metal lever secured in a plastic bracket on each side. Remove the lever from the bracket and turn it back towards the windshield, then leave it in the up/middle position. The head light housing should be sticking out slightly now allowing you to open the rear and replace the bulbs. Also, in the housing should be a switch allowing you to adjust from right-side to left-side driving (I think this was what you were referring to).

To replace the housing, simply place them back on the rails and push in firmly to allow the rear connectors to... connect. You might need to fiddle with the lever a little bit to make this happen. Once it the light is rather flush with the body of the car you can bring each lever back to the full front position and secure on the bracket.

I hope this helps.
