Something in my engine makes a tapping sound quite frequently. The dealer informed me that it is some type of a purge valve and it is operating correctly. This is a very rhythmic tapping that is related to engine speed, i.e., higher RPM = faster tapping.

However, based on the frequency of the noise, it sure seems like there is something wrong - as it's almost always making the tapping noise.

Anyone have this issue?

Is this something I can replace myself? Or do I even need to?

Thanks,

Sad to say it doesn't sound right. Mine sometimes is tapety at cold start up especially if I haven't used the car for a while. But other than that it goes away. Any way you can audio record it and post up for us to listen?

The vent valves all make noise, some louder than others. You should not hear it from the cab. It is located directly above the alternator and feeds to the throttlebody. You can disconnect the electrical connection to it to confirm that this is the noise you are hearing.
