while i was cleaning the engine bay (waiting for zaino to dry) i noticed some oil buildup.

what and how much would it cost to solve this before more things go bad? and any links to DIY if there is one of any relevance to this.

a;sp how can i check if its just the hose or if its the unit itself?

heres a pic of what im talking about, and one of engine bay after cleaning

Can't see anything gone wrong here... Maybe I would pop the hood open again after - say - a few hundred miles and check if there are any pronounced leaks around breather hose connectors...

If there's something wrong with the oil seperator I would expect to see continuous smoking from the engine when cold. If it's not doing that then I agree, just leave it be and check back in a few hundred miles.

well there is no smoke or anything of that nature, so i guess ill leave it alone.

so smoke will b a sign that its going/gone bad?

just how much smoke does show up?

For the FYI, Porsche changed design of oil seperator few years back. If there is no smoke coming out, doesn't mean you have the newer design unit. Check with local dealer or porsche specialist why you have oil is building up.

there will be so much smoke that you will know that something is seriously wrong. a little smoke at startup is normal for these engines, but it usually stops after a few seconds. when your AOS is bad, the smoke will be continuous while the engine is running and will engulf your neighborhood. (no kidding!)

also, depending on how much oil your engine has eaten, you may also experience rough running/misfires.

to diagnose a bad AOS, unbolt the throttle body from the intake manifold and look for lots of oil. if the throttle body is clean, the AOS is probably OK. if you've got tons of oil in there (like i did), it's time to replace the AOS before something bad happens.
