HELP- Strange knocking sounds from front tires when cold

I have a Oct 2005 manual 997S which has been absolutely great so far. Recently though the car

has made some strange knocking sounds coming from my front wheels when the car is cold. This

happens only when turning the wheel completely one way or the other.

I can feel a knock on the steering wheel but have not been able to see what is causing this. It

seems to go away completely after running for a few minutes.

Any thoughts on what this could be?

The dealer corrected it, there is a service bulletin that they're aware of...

Can you give me some more information about this service bulletin ?

I have the same problem but my dealer says he never heard about this problem and the service bulletin.

I have a 2006 C4 which had popping sounds from the front end since day it was new. It took several trips to the dealer to finally resolve all issues. The noise could be reproduced at very slow speed in a parking lot when turning fully to the right then fully to the left. Also the popping could be reproduced when slowly turning onto an uneven surface such as a garage or driveway entrance ramp. The popping could be felt in my passengers feet on the floor.

I had two problems with my front suspension.

The first problem was due to a loose winding on the coil spring where it contacts the upper strut. I was told both springs were replaced with a tighter wound spring and most of the noise disappeared with this fix. This problem is covered in a TSB for 2005 models. However I have a 2006.

The second and much more difficult noise to diagnose was due to a stiff inner tie rod end. The dealer was able to isolate the problem only through discussion with another mechanic who had previously spent two weeks looking for the problem in another 911. All front tie rod ends were replaced and I am finally noise free. The tie rod end problem was intermittent and would disappear temporarily once the car had been on the lift. The mechanic feels that when the car was up on the lift the suspension would reposition itself just enough to temporarily re-lube the tie rod end.

Went for a drive with a Porsche mechanic over the weekend but car wasn't making any noise. Seems to be only in the morning I'm guessing

when there is no lubrication on that part. Goes away after a few minutes of driving. I'll probably be going back again soon to drop off the car since he told me not much he could do without hearing/feeling the knock for himself. Will keep you updated on any progress solving this problem. Jorge
