Hi all,

I've got an 04 40th Anniversary 996 with the MOST Bose sound system but no PCM2. :(

I'd love to add a flip out screen to replace CD storage (below the CD player and the AirCon) - initially just to watch the odd DVD but eventually to add sat-nav.

As far as I can gather from searching previous posts, there aren't any units that can simply be put in and plugged in to the MOST Amp.

Would it be possible to run the audio from the aftermarket unit though an FM modulator and into the aerial input on the CDR23?

Is this possible?? I realise the sound wouldn't be upto the BOSE standard but (providing it worked) it wouldn't be that bad, would it?

This is the only solution i can come up with since-

a) PCM2 is too expensive to retro fit

b ) I don't want to redo the whole system

c) There is no other input to the system

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance,

James

I'm no stereo expert by any means but I can't see how what you purpose would work. I'm not aware of anyway around this problem as of yet. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in.

I also tried to upgrade my MOST stereo too. But after a long search and some good advise from board members, I gave up. Either you spend big $$$ on P-parts or have it totally redo. I am thinking maybe next time when I order a P-car, I would order one without radio system at all. :P

Hmmm maybe i'm being an idiot.

In the same way that you can connect an ipod to the OEM stereo setup through an FM Modulator (since there is no other input to the headunit), isn't possible to connect the audio output of a flip out screen (or anything in fact) in the same way.

In that way i can watch a DVD and listen to it though the original setup.

I've read thousands (almost) of posts about people wanting to add navigation etc to their original MOST setup, and, as PorscheFan says, there don't seem to be any simple, cost effective solutions.

However, if you can add an ipod, why can't you add anything else??

The Ipod works because it transmits a FM signal to the factory head unit. How are you going to transmit an FM signal from a aftermarket DVD/Navigation unit if the fatory unit isn't in the car?? If I understand what your saying, it's that you want to remove the factory MOST unit and install an aftermarket unit in it's place. Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying??

There is no way to install an aftermarket unit into a MOST system that I am aware of without awhole lot of work/time/money and hassel. Hope this is of some help.

I thought my post was clear... Obviously not! :)

I want to ADD a flip out screan to my orginal CDR23 MOST setup. This is so that i can watch DVDs and listen to the sound through the cars original system.

You can't just plug it in because there is no input to the OEM headunit and the amp is MOST (optical).

I want to add it using a wired FM Modulator. This is NOT an FM Transmitter. The FM Modulator allows the sound from a multimedia system or any other audio source to be fed into the vehicles sound system via the radio tuner (ie the aerial input).

Seems simple, no? Can any one spot any problems/issues?

The picture below isn't my car but it should show where i want to put the motorised (single DIN) screen.

Thanks!

As long as the dvd player has analog outs, a modulator will work fine. Only thing I can see is the low end on the dvd's overdriving the amp (which is crap). Some 40Hz high-pass filters work fine.

I don't suppose you'll be driving while watching these dvd's?

Only my "Advanced Driving Techniques" DVD ;)

Thanks for the help, I will let you know the results when it's all done. Need to get a radar jammer fitted first though...

Here's some wired modulator info.

I thought there were several solutions on this site. Did you search? Specifically the AVIC D3, which was over my head and abilities.

Google Mowbridge, Dice and JB Audio. These are from memory, so maybe slightly off.

Crutchfield has the JB Audio unit, but could not confirm how it installed with MOST. JB Audio's website sez it will.

I wouldn't use the modulator,,,the lowest sound quality

added a single DIN DVD/DiVX motorized touch screen then the AMP was installed
