Brake Bleeding help please

Want to bleed the brakes on my '01 996 with my Mightyvac bleeder. Here are my problems:

1. Can't siphon the brake fluid resovoir due to a second screen that does not seem to come out. The top screen came out fine.

2. Started in RR connected the Mightyvac and cracked the bleeder. All I got was spitting of brake fluid rather than a nice flow. Thought I would drain the resovoir via the RR caliper but that would have take all day.

What am I missing here? Why doesn't the brake fluid flow like other cars that I have bled?

do yourself a favor and get a motive brake bleeder, best $50 you will ever spend. its sooo! easy and its a one man operation.

1. The screen comes out (with a snap) so protect any painted surfaces. On a few older cars it may tear - but they were pretty cheap as I recall.

2. Make sure you do not go over 20 PSI as you could damage brake seals. You start with the right rear because it is the farthest away and has the longest line. It might take close a minute to see clear clean brake fluid. And... you do realize there are two bleed valves on each caliper. One will likely have very little fluid and the other will bleed more like a normal car.

You are correct to start with the RR first. The mityvac will work great just open one of the bleeders and you may need to open it a full turn or two or more to get a good flow. If it seems aereated or bubbly you are probably drawing in air around the bleeder fitting. In this case remove the bleeder and wrap the threads with teflon tape to create a good seal and try again. Either bleeder will work as the fluid passages are connected, and they use two as a means to evacuate air from the highest point of each pair of cylinders of these dual acting calipers. Hope this helps.

I have had a Mityvac for years. Two, in fact, after my first one gave up the ghost.

I never had much luck trying to bleed brakes or clutches with it, for the reason stated by nick49. Get a pressure bleeder. Once you use something like the Motive you will never go back to the suction method.

I do not remove the screen with the Motive. I hook up the empty Motive and then drain the reservoir down to the level sensor by cracking open the RR nipple. Remove the motive and fill it with fluid then follow the normal bleed sequence.
