Gang,

Pardon me if this has been asked before but someone asked me and I can't seem to find any solid references in the archives.

-Can the standard 996 PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) be fitted onto an MY04 GT3?

-If the cans fit, then how about the vacuum and electrical installation?

Thanks so much...

Dude,

Porsche should just hire you. Seriously. You know more about these cars than anyone I've ever met.

-Charles

Sorry, no. Different engine and exhaust system.

Um - I'm REALLY loathe to contradict Loren - but yes, it can be fitted - my '04 GT3 has PSE fitted by Porsche GB - it has the relay mod and stays on the whole time :-) Well worth the money - in my opinion - as you get the noise and keep your warranty

Are you sure that it is a Porsche part? not a third party? Can you give us part number(s)?

Well, it was fitted by Porsche UK (by a previous owner)

Where would I find the part number and I'll go digging :)

Beginning to worry now as if Loren don't know it - it probably doesn't exist

Yea, I'd be really curious about that. I do know that it's a different engine but was wondering if the exhaust was the same. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they were identical.

If anyone has details, please share them!

Thanks as always...

I am not the authority on this subject, NOT having replaced the exhaust on my own '04 GT3. I do know, though, that aftermarket exhaust vendors, like Joe at Fabspeed do sell headers and exhaust (cat-back) systems that claim to fit the flat-bottom/996 motors AND the GT3 motors. That implies that the cylinder spacing, port shape, hanger locations, etc are the same. I also remember reading in the 996 GT3 Mk II Tech Descripton that Porsche enlarged the header tubing size for Mk II GT3 vs. the Mk I GT3 among other changes. So, the flat bottom motor's exhaust will probably fit. What it might do to the GT3's exhaust flow characteristics is unknown to me. For what it may be worth, I have been told by more than one usually reliable tuning source that the only street legal exhaust change that reliably makes more power on a Mk II GT3 vs the stock system is the 996 GT3 Cup Car system. I know others have different opinions.

If the mufflers are Porsche parts then they will have a Porsche logo and part number tag on them.

I took my GT3 to the local MOT station (annual vehicle inspection after three years old) and looked all around the exhaust while she was on the ramp - couldn't see any part numbers as I guess they're on the side that faces into the rear PU.

I know the system was fitted by Porsche GB themselves - and they would never fit a non-Porsche part to a car within warranty period.

I'll try calling Porsche UK and see what they say - might be able to get a copy of the original supply invoice to the previous owner although last time I tried they went on about 'data protection' etc etc. :censored:

Hey Philip,

OK that would be cool. Probably more academic than anything else at this point. Any chance you could take a photo or two of your exhaust and post them here?

Thanks!

Ok - I got hold of a contact at the Porsche Centre involved and they confirmed that they did indeed fit the PSE to my GT3 - aparently they did two systems for GT3 owners in 2004 and the system will fit but required minor changes to the brackets (didn't get any more detail than that).

Phew - so it's legitimate!

So, GT3 owners looking for an exhaust system that won't invalidate Porsche warranty - PSE is possible
