I have a UK build C2 MY2000 6 speed manual and the problem I have is that the wipers won't stop working. As soon as I switch on the ignition they start, whatever the wiper stalk setting. When I switch the ignition off they don't park. It started with the intermittent setting - wipers would sweep once then park and then the problem spread to normal wiping - they wouldn't park when switched off so I would switch to intermittent, wait for the wipers to park (1 sweep is all I got) the switch off. Shortly after that it didn't matter what the setting - they just go back and forth.

I've read a couple of the replies re checking the relay but I can't find out which is relay 16. Where is it? Is it a unique relay or is it interchangeable with others on the tray?

All replies gratefully received as the car is due for its annual test (MOT) in a few days and I'm not relishing giving the car to the stealers - they'll probably replace anything electrical and charge me a small fortune.

99% sure you have a bad relay since my Boxster did the same thing. Look under the dash above the fuse box. The wiper relay is the tallest relay. It is blue. It does not interchange with the other relays.

If you remove the relay you can still use the wipers. They will turn on and off with the stalk, but the intermittent and park features will not work with the relay removed.

In the picture the one on the left is a 996 relay, and the one on the right is a non S Boxster.

Absolutely spot on! Thanks very much. Just pulled the relay and it performs exactly as you say. Now off to buy a wiper relay.

Many thanks!

I have a 2004 Boxter S. I went out to the car this morning, turned the ignition on, and the wipers started working continuously. Having searched this excellent forum I went outside and pulled the relay mentioned here - it was full of water! The car was parked on my fairly steep drive overnight nose upermost and we have had a lot of rain during the night, my question is has anybody out there any idea where the water may have got in please? There is no water in the footwell.
