Top Cover Adjustment

I'm having trouble getting the top cover straight on my 2000 S. The Bentley manual makes it look like you just need to loosen the nut that holds the rotating arm that pulls the cover down and adjust the arm position. There's a pin-in-slot on my car that locates the rotating arm so it can only take one position. I need to adjust the mechanism so that the cover isn't pulled down quite so far in the front and farther in the back. I'd appreciate any help.

There is also a wedge-type height adjuster on each side. It is made of black plastic. You can see part of it in your second picture. Open the clamshell. It is near the door.
