New Tire Recommendations

Need a recommendation on tires. Ran over a rock and punctured my 4200 miles rear tire this evening. Factory original Mich Pilot, should I buy the same one or are there better one out there? :cursing: Do I need to buy a set if new or different brand? Really bum me out!!

All depends .... Porsche will recommend that the tires be like make and model on all four wheels for stuff like ABS and PSM to work properly. If the car is new you may only be able to get a matching tire from Porsche. You may want to replace both tires on the same axle at the same time, front or rear. Mismatch tires on the front/rear will work but the ABS or PSM may kick in or may not ... I had this on a 996 with Conti's in the front qand Michelins in the rear- when cold the abs would kick in on the front trires too soon. On the other hand for a daily driver almost any tires will do for getting around.

I would recommend sticking with the Pilots...

I've had Bridgestones, Continentals, Pirellis, and Pilots on my M3 (my car before the C2S) and I liked the Pilots the best.

I have already had to replace my rears because I wore them down to the nylon in 8,000km (5,000 miles) and I developed a bubble in one of the fronts... Really sucked that I had to change 4 tires in one year. But I was still able to do the whole thing for about $1,000.00

My MY07 C2S with Carerra Sports wheels came fitted with Bridgestone tyres. I have nothing to compare these with but I feel that road noise is excessive at times. When the time comes to replace these I will probably opt for Michelin (replacing as a minimum an axle set).

I use Michelin Pilot and my rear tires eat screws

like crazy.

The car runs fine with one new tire in the rear.

It's funny you say that... I found ANOTHER screw in one of my rears yeaterday...

That's 6 in the last 2 summers.

Hi,

The last screw I ran over went thru the sidewall.

The tire had about 1,000 miles on it and I had

to throw the tire away. I drive slower around

work because I think I picked up the screw

there.

...I just came back from the garage... Too close to the sidewall to repair. Brand new tires from June, now I need to buy two because of the different wear, $976.00!!!

Oh well, I guess I'll have a half used spare now.

Any reason why these are such screw magnets? I guess the width (305-30-19) along with the softness of the rubber.?.

The PS2 is still my favorite, though I'd like to try the Yoko Neova. I read that Car & Driver test and the flaw is they did not give results price independent. If they did, I bet the PS2 would have won. I ran One Lap in 2005 and all 95 entries could pick from any tire sold at Tire Rack. I'd guess 90% or more were on PS2s. But the Neova wasn't out yet, so maybe that's the new "best" tire...

I'd always stick with like tires and similar tread depths...

Reading the C&D report makes me wonder... Why doesn't Goodyear make a set of Eagle F1's that fits the 997 and/or 997S?
