hi everyone

i have had my boxster 2.5 for a year now and it is time to modify it my plans include a 3.4 conversion but at the moment i am working on converting it to a tiptronic. this all started when i saw a tip gearbox online cheap and has now been spurred on by clutch problems so instead of replacing the clutch i am going to convert to tip.

i have already

gearbox

torque converter

gear selector

brake pedal

i need (as far as i know)

wiring loom + 2 tip ecu's

cluster

steering wheel

my question is is there anything else i need i.e flywheel and does anyone have any advise other than sell the car and buy a tip. so far i have only spent £200 pounds

I think it would be more cost effective to trade for a Tiptronic car.

Tiptronics use different springs and shocks because the cars weight balance is different. You would also need a 3rd radiator cooling lines to the Tiptronic ATF cooler.

ok but it would be a good time to upgrade the shocks i already have the main parts and i cant find a tiptronic car in the condition and spec that i want plus i don't think i can get what i want for mine either

Can it be done?? Sure. Is it going to open a big ol' can o' worms? Yes it is. Will it ever come out right?? Maybe. I admire your confidence and determination.

If I were in your shoes I'd fix the clutch, resell the Tip components for 5-10 times what I paid, consider that a good investment towards my 03 Box tip, leather int, heated seats, PSM, glass rear window, Bose, etc. etc. You get the Idea. If you are patient, the right car will become available. Just one man's thoughts. My joy comes from turning the steering wheel, not turning wrenches.

I have converted a lot of Honda's from Auto to Manual and with the right parts it comes out just like normal. Everything is designed so every car could have been manual or automatic. You'll need quite the assortment of parts tho. Don't forget the center consol or auto shifter with linkage to the trans. Also there is a really good chance that the mounts for the tip tranny are in a different position than the manual cars are. Most of the auto manual swaps I do I need to re-locate a mount. Have a look at the mounts of the auto to make sure, you may need to cut the mount out and move it to accomodate the manual trans. Not sure about Porsche, but on the Integra I always have to.

Be prepared to buy a lot of "stuff" from the dealer that you just didn't think of.
