oil consumption, the saga continues

Recommended Posts

So my 02 996 was consuming oil and I was getting 'oil failure indicator' lights at a regular basis.

My dealer took the vehicle and drove it for a week, confirmed oil consumption, confirmed the oil failure indicator lights. Initially they felt I needed a new engine, but Porsche wanted them to put in a a new oil separator.

The new oil separator SEEMED to have solved the problem. I had very little oil consumption and no oil failure indicator lights for about 1 month.

However in last few days oil consumption has increased and I am again getting 'oil failure indicator' light coming on at random times.

Any ideas?!?! my car out of service date is one month.

Also, two other problems

1) My vehicle would 'kick' out of 2nd gear sometimes. I bought a B&M sport shifter and had my dealer install it. This SEEMED to solve this problem for a couple months. But now noticing it will kick out of 2nd. Anyone else have this problem??

2) I am now on my THIRD battery. The original porsche battery became a dead cell after 3 years. I put in a NAPA battery, and this lasted 7 months before going completely dead as well. My dealer just put in a OEM porsche battery to replace this. Is this a symptom of something? The NAPA battery is actually a very good battery so that shouldn't have happened.

Thanks for any input

MM

For the oil problem - have they run a compression test on each cylinder?

1. Likely a badly worn synchro - I would guess a rebuilt/replacement transmission is the only fix.

2. Have a tech check your car for a voltage drain. 4 years is good battery life for any battery (regardless of cost).
