I just purchased at 2001 Carrera 4 Cabriolet and happen to see the new instrument cluster on the '03 which has the ability to cycle through items like oil check, etc in the center display. I was wondering if you can put a instrument cluster with like that into my 01 C4 as a direct replacement. The one I have just has the mph and a 2nd line of limited options in the center lcd. Any help or advice on this is greatly appreciated.

I think your cluster actually has this ability - it's just turned off. If you have a good relationship with your local Porsche dealer, go talk to him about turning it on.

No you can't. 02 maybe, but 03 has MOST and CAN bus to communicate with the cluster.

Your 2001 has what I call the old style cluster. Porsche changed the cluster in 2002 for the 996. On the Boxster the change happened in 2001. What I call the new style. Then to confuse you a bit, a new style cluster with the OBC option has a dot matrix center display.

The plugs and wiring in the back of the old style are different than the new style. I do not know how or if you can do what you want.

Instead, if you do not have the OBC you can do the retrofit with the stalk or switch.
