This lookup function is very handy, nice to know what to expect as far as price goes...

So is this information to be treated as confidential?

My dealer quoted me a price on this part 999.571.074.30 that was above the MSRP as listed on the forum, their price $12.96, MSRP: $10.96...

I would like to support my local dealer but don't like the idea of paying more then retail!

Ideas?

No it is not confidential.

MSRP is Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price.

This is Porsche's published retail price. Dealers can charge the same, less, or in a few rare cases more.

Dealers can sell parts at whatever price they want -- including below their cost (usually to move overstock or slow moving inventory).

Part of the reason we post this is so that folks have a ballpark idea of what something will cost -- and also know when they are being overcharged.

Thanks Loren, I just didn't want to use this information in appropriately.

I was at the dealer at noon today and purchased some parts. The salesman that I dealt with when I bought the car told me if I need something to come and see him, I did and he got me the 'better price' which it seems is close to or exactly the MSRP as listed in the look-up.

Although it is nice to get a deal on such things, I always thought that if the price of an item is known in advance and the buyer doesn't want to pay that sum, it is their choice. I guess that what I take away from this situation is that it is a little disappointing that the dealer tells me that I am getting the PCA club price or a 'deal' and it turns out that it is really no better then regular retail!

Anyways, goes to show you that the deals offered by Sunset Porsche are very competitive if not downright excellent!

The parts guys use to show me the computer screen. There we several prices listed for a particular part, including the dealers cost for the part. Like Loren said, they can sell a part for whatever they want, and sometimes it depends on who the customer is.

My dealership was sold to Penske last year, and I think showing me the screen went out the window.
