chin spoiler .beard below front clip

I have an aero kit front on my 996 and managed to tear off the black rubber chin spoiler underneat the main part. It is held on with plastic push clips and i can put it back on but considering th enumber of times I have scraped it and repainted it does it matter if I replace it or NOT? I am wondering if it actually does anything or is more decorative .

It seems that everything Porsche does for any aspect of the shape of the car is for aerodynamic reasons. The chin spoiler keeps air out from under the car - at high speed. Probably required on the autobahn, but maybe not on our interstates..........

I think the black rubber striip was a curb alarm. The areodynamics

of a flat bottom car tends to suck the car to the road.

I have a 40th with X74. It basically sits on the ground. About every 6" along the bottom edge I put a series of wide flange aluminum pop rivets. You can't see them but when I scrape they take all the load and keep the chin about 1/8" off the pavement. The pop rivets look like crap but the chin spoiler is still without a nick.

You can't see the rivets unless you get on your knees.
