Oil Question

I live in the SF Bay Area. What weight of Mobil 1 should I use in MY2003 996?

There will probably be a variety of preferences on this. Personally I would stay with what the factory delivered M1 0W-40.

Here in Texas, where it gets very hot and there is no real winter, I use Mobil 1 15w-50. It has a wide use amongst the local Porchse cognoscenti. It is sometimes on the Porsche approved list of oils and other times it is not. But since the oil meets all of Porsche's specs and it is used at the delaership, I figure it is ok.

We live in the BayArea, never seen snow, the day time temperatures range from the low 50sF in winter to 100F for a few days in summer. As a year round oil, the M1 0W40 may be too thin for summer but then the M1 15W50 may be too thick for winter? In addition, I heard from some oil boards, according to the experts there, the M1 15W50 is a much better oil than the M1 0W40. May be the better solution for us in the BayArea is a mixed 50/50 of the two M1s? any thoughts?? :)

Let's say you mix equal parts of 20 and 40 weights together. You should get 30 weight. Nope. Does not work that way when it comes to viscosity. Much to my suprise. Jeff
