Hardtops, do they fit all years?

I am thinking of getting a hardtop for MY03, but then started thinking of the "what if's"

What if I move up to a MY06 or MY07, will it fit those as well?

Are all years the same, I read somewhere that the soft top for the MY03 was changed from previous years, more rounded etc. Would this affect the hardtop?

The hardtops will fit the same 'family' of cars, so a hardtop for the 986 will fit all 986 models, but will not fit the 987 models - and vice versa.

Any hardtop from a 1997-2004 will fit any other 1997-2004.

The profile of the side windows on a 987 is different than a 986. So a 986 hardtop will not fit a 987.
