trunk sensor

When I lock my car (1999 6spd C2 Cab) using the remote button on the key, the horn often honks. I believe this to be due to a trunk sensor falsely indicating that the trunk is not properly closed. Does anyone know where this sensor is, and if it is adjustable?

you have to remove the black plastic cover over the hood latch, there are 4 plastic screws that hold it in place. Then you can remove the hood latch unit by removing the 2 bolts that hold it in place which you can get to by lifting the trunk carpet. The rest is pretty self explanatory. Detach the hood latch unit from the trunk pull line and when you open it up you will see the sensor, it is a white button. I have changed the latch on my 99 996 and noticed that the sensor was not the culprit in my case, but rather a worn out piece inside the latch.

Most common is that the storage box lid is not closed. Next is the microswitch in the front trunk latch. Porsche changed the switch in 2000. If the switch is bad the trunk light will not go on, go off, or the alarm horn will beep. You can buy just the switch if that is what it is. At my dealer they just the entire latch.

The storage lid box is the storage in the center console. There is no adjustment on the switch other than the bending the metal arm. If the switch is damaged or intermittent then it will need to be replaced. Sometimes the switch is okay and the plastic support bracket is broken or cracked -- usually from slamming the lid too hard.
