Trunks are locked

I have a 1999 Boxster that I recently purchased. The trunks will not open, the manual mentions something about battery being dicharged it will lock the trunk releases. I need to know how to get the trunks latches to work again.

If the battery is charged the releases in the drives door sill should work or may be faulty. If the battery is dead then jump start using a connection through the cigar lighter or the fuse panel. If that does not work peel back the front of the underside wheel well cover on the passenger side. There is an emergency release mechanism consisting of a silver wire loop up under the passenger side head light. Pull it and then jumper the battery directly and get the rear to open. There is also an emergency release mechanism for the rear trunk located behind the tail light on the driver's side.

The battery does have a charge, the car runs and all works. Just the latches feel as if they are locked. I am unable to pull them up in order to open the trunks.

If the other locks are working then the solenoid that locks the handles should be working too -- they all work off the central locking controller.

Look down in the cracks and see if anything is jammed in the latch area.

Well I think, the doors do not lock electronically. I press the lock doors button on the dash and the doors do not lock. So according to Loren, these are on the same central locking controller.

I just purchased the car and the dealer will not help me. I have a choice to get it fixed or return the car monday. Any ideas on problem and estimated cost greatly appreciated!!

Ok, start with the fuses.

The fuse panel (on LHD cars) is the left under the dash.

Look at fuse C3 (that would the third row down from the top - and the third fuse from the left) it should 15A. Also check B8 (second row down 8th from the left) it should be 15A also. Replace them if they are not clearly good.

If the drains for the top storage were ever clogging and the car got water inside then their could be damage to the central locking/alarm unit under the drivers seat (LHD). Feel under the seat to see if it is wet there. In many cases if that has happened then the central locking/alarm controller will need to be replaced (by a dealer because of the alarm system re-coding).

Any other electrical issues? Sometimes a bad ignition switch will cause a number strange things.

Took into to a Porsche specialist it was the control unit. However, my extended warranty covered it all ($508). So I am keeping the car, woo hoo I own a Porsche!! Thanks Loren for your help.
