There have been several discussions in our forums concerning alternate lowering methods, suspension setups, etc. There are always strong opinions (naturally).

I, like many on this site, only drive my 99 C2 on the street and primarily want to lower the car and gain a bit less body roll due to lower center of gravity.

My car has relatively new factory shocks (NOT 030 sport shocks), and, at 20k miles, it would be a shame and a waste to toss them.

Has anyone that has ACTUALLY INSTALLED just the H&R sport springs on an otherwise stock 996 (with factory standard shocks) noticed a difference in ride quality in terms of bounciness, rough ride, jarring ride, less control, less suppleness,etc.

Again, I would love to limit this discussion only to people that have actually done this mod and want to try to keep theory and academic engineering discussions out of it if possible.

It would be great for all of us to be able to cut through the conflicting info and feedback and focus soley on the experience of those individuals that are currently living with this type of setup....

How about a 996TT with H&R Springs?

Cannot say there is a whole lot of difference. I do track the car and aside from the benefit of increased camber due to the lower ride height I cannot say that there is a whole lot of difference in how the car handles. The car looks way better though. :D

I have put about 8K on my 2004 C2 since I installed sport H&R springs. Don't track the car.

Results:

Lowered about 1.5 inches (Way more aggressive looking)

Handling in corners much tighter (Feels more planted and much closer to my Boxster which is a good thing)

I think that the change has increased the cars tendency to oversteer. Takes some getting use to.

Lowering causes you to drag on driveway dips and big speed bumps. Exercise caution!

I have never felt the springs bottom out but the ride is much firmer. Good for sport driving but less comfortable on trips.

I like the H&Rs but if I decide to track the car in the future I will upgrade the whole suspension.

I am interested in knowing the amount of drop attained on a 996 C4S. Also ride feel comparison. I drove a friends 997 C4S with PASM and found that the feel ( cracks in concrete hiway ) in sport mode was very similar to my car in its one and only mode. In non sport, the cracks were not perceptable. This leads me to think that ride feel may be more related to shocks than springs. The H&Rs are said to be progressive vs stock springs. Can you notice the difference in ride firmness?

I installed H&R's on my 99 C2 with 35k miles using the stock shocks and found the ride "bouncy". I presumed since the car was now lower the stock shocks are working out of their desired range. I then installed new Bilsteins which corrected the bounce. Car looks and drive great.

Last night I installed the Eibach ProKit springs. About 5 hours worth of time including short break for dinner. It was not that hard, worse part was removing the strut nut.

I drove the car today, drives perfectly, and straight. Will do the alignment Monday morning. I will be on track on 9-11, and will let you know my impressions. Same track I was a few weeks ago, so willl have a good "butt in seat meter" comparison. The car does look better in my opinion.
