  1. Carrara White is the best Porsche color! Easy to keep clean and stays nice and cool on sunny top down drives! :)
  2. Hello. I'm using it on a '97 Boxster without any problem. This oil can resist to higher temp than the 0W40. It's available at Wal-Mart in 5 litres and 1 litre. Best regards. El Acura, are you sure? Wal*Mart? I asked about 5W50 not 15W50. I don't even see it listed on Mobil's USA web-site. Thanks!
  3. Whatever you decide to do, make sure to use the longer wheel bolts. This might be a mute point with the 17mm spacers, but lots of people try to make this sacrifice with the 5mm spacers. Just an FYI.
  4. There is a very good article in the January 2008 Panorama, page 79 about motor oils. In there Allan Caldwell talks about a Mobil 1 5W50 that is the only 5W50 Porsche "approved/listed". Does anyone here use this oil? Can it be purchased in the USA?
  5. Loren should move this to the "986" section...as you may get more assistance.
  6. Airharvey, I move my car about 12 inches every month, just by gripping one of the wheels and giving it a strong turn. No problem. You should not park the car in gear nor use the e-brake during storage. I use 2 small blocks of wood to lock in place.
  7. I don't have any experience with the CEL's. Maybe your guy is correct. Just remember, a blinking CEL is very serious, and you should not drive the car. Your situation does not sound like an issue. Just wait till Spring. Could be as simple as a loose gas cap. Good job on doing a oil change prior to storage. When my car came out of a +5 month winter hibernation this past Spring, I have no tapping/ticking noise or CEL's, no smoke...nothing. The car roared to life and sounded great.
  8. Don't know about the CEL. The ticking sounds pretty normal for a car sitting that long- 2 months. Did you do an oil change prior to winter storage? Did you stabilize the fuel? Is the fuel tank full?
  9. Raj, if you decide to use a car cover, make sure the car is very-very clean. If not. the cover will get dirty on the under-side and scratch your car's finish.
  10. I also have an '01 986, 51K miles, great condition. I love driving the car. My wife drives an '05 997, but I end up driving it when we take it anywhere, so I've got a lot of time in both cars. The more your drive a rear engine Porsche compared to your mid-engine Boxster, the more you start to notice and appreciate the differences. There's no question the 911 has more power, which is intoxicating when driving, although the Boxster is quite capable of getting anyone into plenty of trouble with the local law enforcement types. The driving dynamics of the two cars are completely different. The more I drive both cars, the more I appreciate the Boxster handling characteristics. The Boxster will never have the prestige of a 911 in most circles, nor will it have the room behind the front seats. I suggest you spend some time driving a 996 and your car back to back to determine how much of a factor the driving dynamics make in your decision to "trade up" A friend with enough money got rid of his '00 Boxster S and bought a new Boxster S, sent it straight to Ruf and had a 997 S engine with the powerkit put in. It drives like 80% of what I expect a Carrera GT would drive like, but at 20% of the cost. It's his daily driver. I think Excellence did an article on it some time last year. If that sounds appealing, you might want to keep your Boxster and stuff a more powerful Carrera engine in it, along with some suspension enhancements. You could do the suspension now and the engine upgrade when/if yours dies or you get the urge for something "better" No matter what you decide, the worst that can happen is you'll be driving a nice Porsche Geoff, good post! You have the luxury of owning both cars, but neither are a 987S for the full comparison. A couple of your comments made me chuckle a little too. :) The "prestige" comment always gets me. And the Bosxter does have great room behind the front seats...it's called a trunk. Holds a lot of stuff as you know. Tell me Geoff, your lucky friend with the RUF 987S...does he have the "prestige" now that his Boxster has a Carrera engine? :)
  11. Airharvey, I am not sure about the cause for the CEL nor the ticking noise, but why did you start your car prior to Spring? Porsche does not recommend this in the Owners Manual. You are correct, and Porsche recommended, regarding the tire pressure and battery maintainer. Good job there! You are under warranty, just deal with it in the Spring. Can you pull the fault codes?
  12. Hi 1999Porsche911, does the Boxster have a secondary air pump, specifically the 987 Boxster? Thanks.
  13. I'll second the recommendation Maurice gave for Ragg Topp. But you might not be able to find it in Poland. Great stuff.
  14. Ya know, a little off-topic here but, how often are you on the other end of a Bluetooth phone call? I think the sould quality is crap for the other party! Just my opinion. Especially with those Bluetooth hands-free ear pieces for cell phones.
  15. Hi White 987S, Thanks for your comments. I didnt even add the 987S to my list because every S I see close to my house (NJ) seems to be well above my price range...I guess that leaves me with the 987 Base... Is it still a much improved car over the 986? Thanks, Gus Gus, I am biased, since I own a 987, but I think the 987 is much nicer than the 986. Interior by far. The 986 is a great car. I think the Boxster just got better with the 987. I think you can get a 2005 987S within your budget- low-low $40'ish.
  16. Hi White 987S, Thanks for your comments. Is it still a much improved car over the 986? Thanks, Gus For what it's worth, why have you left out 911's? There are so many great deals to be had right now that it seems to me you should at least consider. Pricewise, you are certainly in the right ballpark. Don Hi Don, I think Gus is also considering the 911. He has a typo in his first post. I think he ment to say 996 not 986 in his 3rd bullet point.
  17. Gustavo, here is my 2 cents: 1) You are tall, the 987 has much more head and leg room than the 986 2) The Boxster is a convertible, how important is top down driving? 3) Get the "S" if you want to spend that much 4) Mid engine or rear engine? My vote would be a 987S. A 2005 or 2006.
  18. Guinsu, I put an entire Blaupunkt stereo many-many years ago in my VW GTI. It was awesome! But, that was a long time ago. I don't know much about them current day.
  19. Sorry, Pomocanthus, I don't know enought about this to help you.
  20. It is a late 2000 built MY01. I knew it wasn't charging due to the status light on the charger. Which prompted me to check the lighter socket with a voltmeter - only has power when key is turned to ACC. 911TBO, OK my charger status light is red when charging, and then turns off automatically when fully charged.
  21. I understand your point. For me the real issue is that I know what Porsche allows for the install, approx. 3-4 hrs. Labor rates may vary, not by that much! The other issue is that I don't trust them to do the right job! I've heard a lot of horror stories about incorrect software updates, etc. I understand and agree. The quality of the work is very-very important. Good decision. I would like to find the right forum to bring this issue to PCNA's attention. Sadly, I don't think PCNA really cares. This is very unfortunate.
