  1. I don't think you need the fancy one from Porsche. Porsche also sells a simple battery maintainer for about $55 from places like www.suncoastporsche and www.sunsetporsche. Get one. Then when you come home, plug it in for 2-4 days, and it should charge you up enough to start the car. Keep it pluged in again when not using the car for more than a few days. If you can afford the waiting time, I'd do it this way vs jump starting. Maybe a trusting neighbor can plug you in while you are away. Buy the charger, and ship it to them. Just a thought.
  2. Did the dealership find the "missing fins"? If the fins broke off, where are they? Maybe this is adding to the problem.
  3. Ahhh, but then I would be "taking" a tire from someone who truly needs it. I believe in Karma, my friend!! :)
  4. caboydman, wouldn't you need to make some changes to the front of the car's aerodynamics too? Since you would be drastically changing the rear's. Car could be very unstable (at speed) if you just change one aspect.
  5. Could be a heat shield. There will not be a code thrown for a rattle in your cats.
  6. Nick, excellent question! Apparently (per the Porsche dealership Parts Manager) Michelin has a reserve of tires to pull from for these emergency situations. Not for a schmoo like me who just needs new rear rubber in about 2-3K miles.
  7. I called PCNA today. They were not aware of any issues with Michelin. Then, a little while later they called back and said you are right. Michelin is not planning to make that tire again for 6-8 weeks. The parts manager at one of the local dealerships also confirmed. I can wait a couple months, still got a litlte tread left. But I'll be needing something by June/July.
  8. Keep looking! There are many used Boxsters out there.
  9. If it were my car, I would replace the RMS and clutch.
  10. Phillipj, the work was completed 14 months ago. We know nothing about how the car was maintained or driven. At what point is the mechanic who did the work no longer responsible? A year? 2?? 10??? It's a car. They break. You fix them and then move on.
  11. Sorry, I disagree with you Shawn. He bought the car 2 weeks ago. It was leaking then, as it is leaking now. I think a good mechanic would have found it, or know the tell-tale signs. I think there would be a class action, if the numbers were there. Not gunna happen. How much do you earn in 12 hours? Are you willing to work for free tomorrow? I didn't think so. Why should Porsche? Or anyone for that matter. Should they cut the guy good deal? Yes. There is an equitable solution here. Through a good negotiation, it can be reached. I do agree with your last sentence! :)
  12. I would take the AWD. And I bet that dealership that told you this has a bunch of RWD's in his used car inventory!
  13. Steven, sorry to hear about your frustrations. You are not alone. Did you do a Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI)? This may have saved you from buying this car, or you could have negotiated the repair into your purchase price. RMS is common, as you stated. The price you are being quoted is also current. I would not get your hopes up for Porsche to cover any part of your repair cost. At best, the dealership might cut you a deal since they did the first repair. Did they also sell you the car? This may not be the last RMS repair needed, if you keep the car for a few years. You might want to budget for this in the future. It sounds like you did some good research about the Boxster...just a little too late in your purchase process. Don't get too down on yourself and get buyers remorse. These are fun and rewarding cars. The RMS issue is part of the cost-of-ownership. I'd much rather have a Porsche with an RMS issue than no Porsche at all! :)
  14. You need a battery maintainer. I recommend plugging-in for periods that exceed 5-7 days. Very easy to do. I drive my car 1-2 days per week. Sometimes it sits for 2 weeks in the summer. I always plug in. It is also plugged in for winter storage (5 months).
  15. Kabel, differences are very slight, as in this example: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/CompareTires...mp;startIndex=0 Surprising that the Porsche approved tires are less$$$$!!
  16. That's very interesting .... I have an '05 S with 19" Michelins ... the rack told me it was a proprietary tire & size and only could be bought through Porsche Dealers ( reeks of Restraint of Trade ) but they could sell me the fronts ? Said " no thanks " and called the Porsche dealer & got a quote ... then called a local tire dealer & his deal was better and he is local so I wanted to support him ... he said it would take a few days to get them but he " knew " he could get them ... that was a week ago Friday ... we'll see what we see on Monday ... I'll keep you posted. Jwolfe, just make sure they are N1's. Tire Rack has plenty of non-Porsche approved Michelin PS2's.
  17. Get this one: http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant...y_Code=996knobs
  18. Your insurance company will not like that too much. Our your wife & kids.
  19. Nick, I would love to get that deal from PCNA. I would consider switching to Bridgestones if I could get 4 tires for the price of 1. I'm calling PCNA on Monday morning. Thanks for the tip.
  20. Well stated, Phillipj. Just about anyone can purchase a Porsche. Especially a used one. It's a whole different equation and value proposition to properly maintain one with the proper diligence. But, it will reward you in the end!
  21. Did all the 993 Turbos have standard Litronic headlights, or was this an option? If it was an option, what was the code. Thanks.
  22. I need rear tires for my 2006 987S. Size is 265/35/19. In Michelin PS'2. Tire Rack is out of inventory. Is this a common problem?
  23. I have seen this complaint/issue a few times with other 986 owners. Most of them just live with the quirk.
