  1. This is a good read, and will help you: http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html
  2. Yeah, a clutch job will be about $3K.
  3. That's the price to play! The factory option is about $24,000. Many people spend about $1,000 per HP on mods all the time with questional results.
  4. I'm not a math professor, Wall Street investor or Jesus. If you can turn $3000 into the $12,000 needed for an engine replacement in a short period of time, I want you to come manage my finances. :D That's is not my point, Silver Arrow. What are the chances of needing an engine replacement? How did Warren Buffet get so rich....by owning insurance companies! Think about it. :)
  5. Great advice, Chuck! This is an amazing story, please keep us posted, Beach987.
  6. Meek, how much do you expect to spend for a warranty? I would guess about $3,000 if you can get one for 1999 with 63,000 miles. Dependable is a whole different issue. So, fund your own. Take the $3K and deposit into an interest bearing account. Only to be used for repairs...not maintenance items. You are dependable. You won't gouge yourself. :)
  7. Sure, I'd replace the clutch for $625. That's a good price for "piece-of-mind". Yes, sometimes our engine go poooof! Trade your car in or ask for you money back....are you kidding me? We love our cars. I'd much rather have a Porsche with a few problems (and I have zero!) than NO Porsche at all! You are going to have a new engine. Be happy, don't worry.
  8. Call the Porsche dealership in Louisville, and ask them for a recommendation. You can also try calling other high-end car dealerships, and ask for recommendations. Good luck.
  9. What about the new PSS10 system. Are you going to consider this too?
  10. gswc32, just make sure you do a proper engine break-in with the new motor. And I suggest changing the oil with the new motor at about the 1,000-2,000 mile mark.
  11. What is the date on the brochure? (I am sure Porsche reserves the right to change anything they fell like... LOL). I was looking for that about 3 posts ago. Nothing really is printed on it. It looks like a mailing that was sent out to owners in the area.
  12. Will the CPO pay for the new engine? If you get a "free" new engine...that would be a good problem to have IMHO.
  13. Thanks, Loren. Then I stand corrected. Or the brochure does! :o
  14. Will, if you wear the pants, then it is your responsibility to empty the pockets. For example, if you left money in the pants, and she washed them, who's money would it be then? Did you know men who help their spouses do housework get more sex! True, I read this last year. And it works. Just a tip for you. :)
  15. Johnson, I think you may be incorrect. The information I have clearly states: "...plus revised, race-tuned camshafts and cylinder heads..." This is directly from a bruchure I received from a Porsche dealership.
  16. Will, are you saying your wife wears the pants in your family! :)
  17. I agree with you, but it is another option. Plus, I never suggested it was "just an ECU (proper term is DME) and filter thing". The dealership does the following: carbon fibre air filter housing revised, race tuned camshaft & cylinder heads different exhaust manifold Sport exhaust Factory warranty 381 HP 306 lb/ft torque 4.4 0-60 $18,699
  18. I know dealerships in the Chicago area can add the X51 powerkit on the 997 after delivery. They say it is the same as factory, same power, same warranty...for about $5,000 less.
  19. waymegelli, thank you for going to Iraq to protect our freedoms and counrty. I hope your car is right again soon. As a side note, it is an issue like this when buying the "Porsche" brand accessory can really pay off.
  20. Your dealership should know when they accept the order. They can't enter the option code if it is not available. They would know within days if Germany kicks the order out. What does "FL997" mean?
  21. Establish a relationship with your deaalership, and they can e-mail a PDF file to you, when they come out. Or become a Contributing Member here, and you get access, plus a whole bunch more...like TSB info.
