  1. Well, brakes are cheaper to replace than an engine. I say use your brakes to control speed.
  2. OEM parts have painted "hats". I think this is worth the extra. They look and will stay cleaner. You can paint the Zimmermans too, but what is your time worth? More than $40 for sure.
  3. You will learn to find, hunt, and search maps for them! :) Enjoy searching. It can be very fun part of the process too. Porsche's website is excellent for searching dealers pre-ownes (and new) inventory.
  4. eddiek, great time to buy! There are a ton of Porsches for sale right now. A buyers market. Make sure you get a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) done from an trusted source (not the selling party). A CPO car would be nice too. Because of the warranty. Search on Porsche's website for pre owned certified. AutoTrader is also a good source. Not sure how the CPO works there. Consider the "S" version too. I think a Tip decreases the market value on a used car. Just MHO. So, this may work in your favor.
  5. Dear Santa: I know it is a little early to be writing you, but I have been a very-very good boy this first half of the year, and I wanted to make sure you knew exactly what I wanted this year for Christmas. Please put me down for a 99710099703 from the local Porsche parts department. It may prove challenging to get it down the chimney, so I'll leave the Boxster sitting on the driveway. Just take out my motor and replace with part number 99710099703. Feel free to give my motor to any of the 986 guys, since they have so many of those RMS/IMS issues. Thank you, Santa! Love, Timmy PS- please park the Boxster back in the garage when finished, I don't want any snow on her!
  6. Nick, there is a reason these "Agreements" between owners and Porsche are not communicated very well. They are Confidential Agreements, and Porsche requires a signed statement as such.
  7. You did really good Spiro! I got 20,000 on my set before a new set about 2 weeks ago.
  8. What is it that you are trying to accomplish...better looks or better handeling?
  9. I would recommend the Michellin PS2's. But if you like the Contis, buy them again. You will save money over the PS's Do you have 18 or 19? How many miles did you get?
  10. Very nice car, Elrover! But, what is it? A 997 or a 997S. And are you trying to make it look like a GT3?
  11. GT2IAN, aren't replacement pads and rotor for PCCB like $5 large? Oouch! Why do the rotors need to be replaced? I thought one of the many advantages of the PCCB system was longer life.
  12. Chris, if you know you can't drive it for an extended period, just move the car (by hand) about 6-12 inches, to help prevent the potential flat-spot. When my car is in winter storage, the first Saturday of each month, I move the car about 12 inches. I also park it on hard/dense rubber matting.
  13. Lots of Porsche dealerships have actually stopped doing PPI's because customers get upset like 930chef. I have paid for 2 PPI's this year (both with the dealership) and have passed on the cars (993TT). So, they are helpful, but not perfect. Having to replace the clutch is not the end-of-the-World. Just get it done, and you will be very happy again with your new Porsche! I think whenever buying a used car (especially a Porsche) you need to have a budget set aside for a few repairs right after you take ownership, to get the car the way you really want it.
  14. I would not worry either, especially to the point of not wanting to take a long trip. I bought one of those emergency tire plug kits and a pair of needle nose pliers last year to keep in the trunk, just in case. This is in addition to the Porsche supplied sealant kit. I am more concerned about being in an area without cell phone coverage in the unlikely event that I get a flat tire....than actually getting a flat tire in the first place.
  15. We have a whole section for this: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...code=maint_menu
  16. I think the Pirelli: 1) Will wear faster 2) Not as good in the rain/wet 3) Get louder with wear 4) Tend to flat spot
  17. Well, sure. They are a "for profit" business. Shop around. How much do they want to charge you for the exhaust? And labor? You can buy the exhaust from Sunset Porsche Imports (one of our sponsors) for about $1,800. I was charged 4 hours labor last year from a dealership. They used the warranty labor rate of $125 per. The normal shop rate is closer to $200. It took them a lot longer than 4 hours becuase they ran into a few problems, since my was the very first 987S they did in 2007. I supplied my own parts bought from Sunset.
  18. Sounds like classis tire flat spotting but I usually don't hear these complaints from Bridgestone tires. This is usually more associated to the Pirelli tires. My car regularly sits for 5-7 days between drives, and I do not have issues with flat spotting (PS2's). I don't even have this issue wafter +5 months of winter storage.
  19. Here is a helpful old post: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...hl=windstop+diy
  20. It is a DIY project but, I would still have the dealer do it IMHO. The windstop is a MUST HAVE option.
