  1. Call a place like RUF and ask them what an engine replacement would cost. I bet it would be close to $30-35K because you would not have a core exchange (worth about $5K). Good luck. Proceed with caution. There are no "cheap" Porsches!
  2. Sorry about your accident. Make sure you make a "diminished value" claim against the other party.
  3. Be careful with the Sport Seat option. Bigger (shoulder) guys complain about the tight squeeze. I would rather have heated and vented seats over the sport seat, IMO. Sport seatrs look very cool in the Carrera, for example, becuase you can have them painted to match the car. In the Boxster, you really don't get the opportunity to see them., since they are usually up close the rear firewall. Just a thought. Make sure you get the Porsche Sport Exhaust and the chrome tip for the exhaust.
  4. Here it is: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...mp;#entry118063
  5. ToolPants just posted a good picture of the IMS failure (bearing) a couple days ago.
  6. Asto_86, Really...$105K...wow...good for you. I have rarely seen a Boxster go over $80-85. Do as you please. you deserve it. Re-sale may be an issue, but if you are planning to own it for a long time, who cares. Plus, you need to be happy with it, and no buyer's remorse. Congrats. Full leather is very nice. And leather door closures are a very little detail, but looks great. Are vented seats available in the new 987S? I saw these in the new 997S-2. Wish I had them in my car.
  7. I custom ordered my 987S and would do so again for my future Porsches. I would also expect a dealership with an open build allocation would offer you a 10% discount off MSRP...but you may have to work the system and be willing to purchase away from your home location, including out-of-state. My only other advice is to purchase every single option you want now and can afford in your budget. Adding stuff after the purchase is much more expensive (2-3 x's more). For example Sport exhaust...painted roll bars. Have fun!
  8. Topmech0, what part of the World are you in? I thought the 993TT was made in 1996 and 1997 (USA). But I guess a few others were MY 1998 like in Australia, for example. Thanks.
  9. Gus, as a contributing member, you have access to the TSB's and in there is a very comp. list of Porsche Approved Oils. Just pick one you like most.
  10. I might agree with some if this. I use Red Line 5W40 in my car. Love it. I would also like to see some correlation between IMS failure and proper engine brake-in when the car was spanking brand new. I realize this may be impossible to gather. Just another thought.
  11. I think IMS failure is far less common than RMS failure. Just much more painfull and expensive.
  12. Naw...just dirt, leaves and such. Do you park outside or in a garage?
  13. What is "crazing"? I never heard the word "shash" before. :) What's to keep Porsche from voiding the entire warranty, since you bought the car in the US and now want service in Canada?
  14. Have you reviewed these costs with your "friend" whom you purchased the car from? You guys need to negotiate this a little, I think. Did you get a PPI done?
  15. Ragg Topp cleaner & protectant for the top. The leather care products from www.colorplus are excellent!
  16. I agree with the dealership. The worst thing about running the gas very-very low, on some cars (not sure about the Porsche) is that the fuel pumps are sometimes located in the tank, and the fluid helps to cool the pump. So, I think the fuel pumps could wear quicker in that type of set-up.
  17. Brakes are cheaper than transmissions & engines, so it seems kinda silly to downshift as you have been doing in the Tip. Especially since you can't rev-match.
  18. Sorry about your Grandfather. Grandparents are great people! Porsches are great therapy.
  19. Drive easy for a mile before parking in the garage. Let idle for about 60-120 seconds before shutting down. You can also open the rear trunk lid, in the garage, to aid cooling. Don't need to pre-warm the car prior to driving. That only wastes gas and can mess up emissions systems, including cats. Just keep RPM's below 4,000 until car is up to full op temps and oil pressures.
