  1. ZeroH, if I were buying your car, and did a PPI, and got those leak-down values, I would probably take a pass on the car. There are a ton of 996 TT's for sale, and prices are dropping like a rock. But, this is not the case. You are not selling the car. You should invest the money now, or set aside for later, to have the necessary repairs done to this great car in the future.
  2. Make sure you delete any old garage codes in the car first. And openers with the rolling code function need specail attention, and you need to locate the "learn" button on the motor head unit.
  3. I agree with the <5%. Also look for consistency among the 6 cylinders.
  4. I have the Sycamore wood trim (dash trim strip, e-brake, and shifter) in my Boxster. Love it. It is only 3 years new (old). I wipe it down with a quick detailer once or twice per year. Looks great. Has a nice satine finish.
  5. I love the following products: 1) Zaino for the car (www.zainobros.com)- soap and wax 2) Soffener for the leather (www.colorplus.com) 3) Ragg Topp for the convert. 4) ReJex wax for the wheels 5) I clean my windows with 1 part denatured alcohol and 2 parts distilled water 6) Vinlyex for the tires 7) No clear bra...just don't tail-gate the stuff in front of you 8) No wheel cleaner- when using ReJex wax, soapy water (Z7) is all you ever need, the dirt just flys off 9) High quality towels 10) Wash the car in 3 stages; wheels only, lower half, final wash. Don't use the same rags or buckets or water 11) Dry you cars and wheels with a leaf blower (make sure your driveway is clear first) Midnight Blue is a great color...just hard to take care of (like a black car).
  6. The only thing better than painted bumperettes is working with a great guy like Eric! Great company, service and quality. I wish more Porsche related venders were like www.bumperplugs.com. Eric is an excellent reminder that a top quality job never costs more, in fact you save money (hard & soft) over a poor quality product and service.
  7. I have driven many hundreds of miles, top down, heated seats on, in 40 degree early Spring or Fall weather. With only a sweatshirt and a knit hat. Plus, the wife & kids loves the heated seats.
  8. I agree. Change it. 0W20 is the recommended fill for my DD Eddie Bauer Explorer with the V8. I have only used that weight a couple times before changing to synthetic 5W30. Truck runs better and with better MPG's.
  9. No confusion here. Just a different and more conservative approach. Not an issue of "right" or "wrong". Everything I have read recommends an oil change after the use of a fuel cleaner. The operative word being"recommended".
  10. Hi 1999Porsche911, everything I have read from the "oil experts" recommends using a fuel cleaner just prior to your oil change. I think the main issue is the fuel cleaner disrupts the oil viscosity.
  11. The Chevron fuel cleaner with Techron is very good, and reported to be Porsche approved. Regardless, you should also change the oil after using a fuel cleaner.
  12. Lots of times the PO will write the radio code on the white options sticker. Look there too.
  13. +1! And get the (spend the money on) Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE).
  14. Technically speaking, you should always dim your "brights" when entering a turn, because you don't know (can't see) who is approaching from the opposite direction. At least this was how my father taught me many-many years ago. I find that good fog lights help illuminate the area (raod & shoulder) in a curve pretty well.
  15. Chema, are you out of Warranty? Which light burnt out? Thanks.
  16. I push the Boxster in 5th gear (I don't need to use 6th) down the drive after 5+ months of winter storage every year in early spring. Then, I fire her up with the key. Works great.
  17. Everytime I wash the car, I use the leaf blower to clean out the front grill areas. First when dry, and then after washing. Works great to dry the entire car too.
  18. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. The car always sounds awesome in the Spring!
  19. This is true. The 986 has the cut-out. The 987 does NOT. I close the door on mine, and keep the car locked & alarmed. All is good.
  20. I store my car with a very-very full tank, with a fuel stabilizer. The reason for the hand turned engine prior to starting in the spring is to pull a fresh, thin film, of oil in the cylinder wall and to make sure the rings did not seize, prior to turning the key with all of that torque and power from the starter and motor.
  21. This is the 3rd winter I will be storing my 2006 987S. I have had great success each year following a few simple steps, all discussed here in many posts. I also follow the Porsche Owner's Manual. There is NOT a single recommendation in the Owner's Manaul to start and run the car during the storage period. My car sits from mid October till early April. I NEVER START OR RUN THE ENGINE DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. In early spring, I turn over the engine by hand (by pushing the car in 5th gear for about 10-15 feet) and then start it, and go for a long drive and buy a fresh tank of fuel. The car starts great...no smoke...no noises...sounds like a pre-warmed engine restarting.
