  1. Did you try: 1) Sunset Porsche 2) Suncoast Porsche 3) LA Dismantlers 4) Oklahoma Foreign
  2. I just bought Sta-Bil this weekend. I'll start my winter hibernation process very soon. I have successfully done this the past 3 years, now coming up on year #4. Then, the first drive in the spring, I do a long (300 mile +) drive, use up the tank of stabilized 5 month old gas, and buy a nice fresh tankfull.
  3. Can't help, sorry. But curious, what is the paint shop charging for the work? Thanks. I like the look of the painted sport seats. Especially in the lighter/brighter colors like speed yellow, carrara white, guards red, and some of the silvers. Post pictures when completed.
  4. WOW! I did this last night. Took me over 2.5 hours! I was working S L O W again, and did not even drink a beer between steps. Plus, I detailed (303 Protectant) and vacuumed some of the carpeted parts before I buttoned everything up. Keep in mind, in almost 4 years of ownership, I have never seen my engine! It took me a good 45 minutes to do the thing with the rear top to put in the service position (I even used a tape measure to measure the 60 cm required distance- in all fairness it took me 5 minutes to find a metric tape measure!), remove the thick padded carpet cover (wow, that thing is thick), Bose speaker box (I had a very had time figuring out how to unclip the speaker wire connection) and then remove the metal engine bay cover. The next part was not too bad until I tried putting the new clean filter back into the air box holder. This took a good 20 minutes to figure out how to line up the oval shape in the filter with the oval shape in the air box holder. I'm a tall guy with long arms, I don't know how vertically challenged people can work on these cars! At this point I was so exhausted, I took a break, had dinner (rigatoni with a nice meat sauce) and then went back into the garage to put the engine cover back on, and reverse the top out of the service position. The filter was pretty dirty. I had the dealer do this 2 years ago. Right around 17,000 miles on each filter. Next time I think I could do the whole job in about 1 hour. The best part was on the "test drive" with my 9 year old daughter. She asked me, "Daddy, do different Porsche cars get to drive different speed limits?" I said, "No, we all have to follow the posted speed limits." Then she says, "Awww, that's too bad, Daddy!" :) Thanks for the help you guys gave me. Two years ago the dealer charged me over $130 for an air filter change during my yearly oil change. This was also a great opportunity for me to become one with the Boxster.
  5. OK, I did this last weekend. It was pretty easy. Mine was a little tricky, since I have a front strut tower brace (Racing Dynamics), and this limited my access a little. But I was still able to do it without having to remove the brace. One the 987 there is a black plactic bracket in front of the pollen filter. I removed the 2 torx screws from the bracket, pulled out the dirty filter (very dirty- 3.5 years and 33,000 miles) and then placed the new carbon OEM filter in and down to seat it. Put the bracket back in, and replaced the access panels by the battery and passanger side area. Took me about 45 minutes. I was working v e r y s l o w because I did not want to screw anything up or drop a screw into never-never land! I could do it again in 15 minutes. I think this saved me over $1,000 from the dealership! :)
  6. I have the Bose system in my 2006 Boxster S and find it to be an outstaning system. In fact, I can get so much bass going that I have it dialed down vs the treble. Heck, I can feel it in the seats almost like a messaging chair. How long have you owner the car? Is it still in warranty? Maybe you have a blow speaker, amp or something is disconnected. Maybe listen to another car's system at the dealership for a point of reference and comparision. I think my system has 11 speakers.
  7. Touche! LOL. It really is not that loud. When I leave my house at 5:00 AM on a Saturday or Sunday morning it's just fine. Plus, you get that nice cold-start-up gurgle! I keep her below 4,000 RPM until fully warmed-up, and by then I am nearing the clover-leaf and away from the sleeping neighbours.
  8. Congrats on the new car! PSE is awesome! You really don't need to hook-up the on/off function IMHO. Makes the install that much easier. You will like the sport mode (loud) all the time. But, I know a lot of owners like the on/off function. It's personal choice, I understand. I did see that the PSE pricing has gone WAY UP! I wondered about that. It is now 2X's the price I paid for the parts (from Sunset Porsche) over 2-years ago. I had the very first PSE retro-fit on a 987S in the USA in April of 2007. You don't need park assist in a convertible! The top sould be down 99.5% of the time...and that makes it that much easier to see when parking!! :) Plus, it saves weight, and increases HP. :P
  9. This looks like a typo: Front - 234/40R18 91V 18x8 offset 45 mm Should be Front - 235/40R18 91V 18x8 offset 45 mm.......right?
  10. Sorry, but I don't have any true answers for you. But, I'd imagine it would be easier to this work with the engine out. Do your RMS too while you "are in there" if not recently rreplaced. I did want to say this is awesome! Both your mileage (+106K) and your skill level to do this kind of work on your own car. I am very envious. Congrats on both parts. Maybe send a PM to Jake Raby...if he does not respond directly to your post.
  11. I only get to drive my car one day per week. And when I do, I'm gone for several hours. Like yesterday, I did over 400 miles and was parked in the garage by 1:30PM. I have taken the 2006 987S on two trips to the Tail of the Dragon. Both trips are just over 2,000 miles door-to-door (including the driving there).
  12. Flat spotting is when you lock the brakes and wear a flat spot in the rubber. It doesn't improve when the tires warm; this is related to the elasticity of rubber. I would say we are both right. The term "flat spotting" is used to desribe both phenomenon.
  13. Thanks everyone! I am going to try this over the weekend. I bought the OEM carbon filter from Sunset. It's a pretty expensive part. About $60. I did see the non-carbon one for 1/2 the price. And I agree with Blundgren77 about being a convertible and all and my top is down +95% of the time. But figured I'd still buy the more expensive one since I was doing the labor. I'm sure the dealer would charge me over $120 for P&L! IIRC, the dealership charged me over $130 to replace the engine air filter 2 years ago. That's why I bought my own filter this time around (about $26 from Sunset.). Live & learn.
  14. I need a DIY for dummies to change the pollen filter on a 987.1 Thanks.
  15. I need a DIY for dummies for changing the engine air filter for a 987.1 S. Thanks.
  16. This is common. Termed "flat spotting". Normal.
  17. My heart skipped a beat or two for you! Glad there was no damage.
  18. Lee3272, without pictures, there is no proof this ever happened! :)

  20. What oil (brand and viscosity) are you using? What is the typical air temps?
  21. CPO is very good. It cost the dealer about $1,500-2,000 depending on the model. Can they CPO a 2002? That's getting pretty close to the cut-off date.
  22. If this were my new engine, I'd change the oil at about the 1,000 mile mark.
