  1. Dealerships are slow right now in this economy and many Porsches are off the road in winter storage. They love warranty work. They get paid. The customer is happy they did NOT pay. Win-win. Why are people surprised how much a Porsche dealership charges. Most shop rates exceed $200/hour. Heck, Ford charges over $100/hour. My Porsche indy shop rate is right at $100. This is the "cost of addmission". Either learn to DIY or bring the big check book.
  2. You could use Mobil 1's 5W50. Call or e-mail Mobil, and ask for a dist. in you area. They will sell directly to the public.
  3. I would change them at the 4 year mark, like the Owner's Manual says. That's what I plan to do with my car too.
  4. This has been covered many times. Store the car with fresh oil. Over fill the tires to 58 PSI. Add fuel stabilizer. Plug in Battery Maintainer. Plus a few other tricks.
  5. Hopefully you will be OK. Have your DME read, and report back here with the number of ignitions in range #1 and range #2. Due to the missed shift, you added several ignitions into the range #2 numbers. Range #1 are those over-revs caught by the re-limiter. Range #2 are mechanical over-revs caused by things like a missed shift, since the rev-limiter does not protect you on a downshift, only up shifting. You are also not protected when the car is spun, and the engine goes in the reverse direction. That's why it is important to get the clutch in fast, when car is spun. The dealership will provide these reports and readouts for you when the car is in for scheduled maintenance or your yearly oil change. I have never been charged for these reports, and request them yearly for my car's history.
  6. Nice and you what he did? Not sure. But he did not take off the front bumper cover.
  7. Your right foot is also the tire-wear modulator! 6K is NOT unheard of. I have gotten 20K on a set of Pilot Sports (19"). 10-12K is pretty standard. You may need an alignment to extend tread life a little more. But, with the mods, that may not be possible. What are your cold tire pressures?
  8. On my 2006 987S one of the two horns failed on me this summer. It was covered under warranty. I was in & out of the dealership within 30 minutes. They did NOT pull off the front bumper.
  9. How many miles? Worn distributor cap???
  10. You will be able to purchase that Porsche for at least 20% off MSRP. More, if you are a good negotiator.
  11. blundgren77, how many miles on that oil change? Maybe you need to shorten your interval.
  12. I change my oil yearly. This is right at about 7,500-8,500 miles for me. I would never go over 1 year without an oil change or over 8,500 miles. Oil is cheap insurance.
  13. Congrats! What oil do you use? Drain interval? Tell about your non scheduled maintenance and repairs, if any. Thanks.
  14. These are getting harder and harder to find. Especially of any quality. Give Eric at bumperplugs a call. He knows a lot about this subject, and has some new things up his sleeve, that he plans to announce soon.
  15. ^That sounds like a good plan. I don't know from experience. Maybe "Liquid Wrench" in place of the WD-40. Maybe a little heat from a heat gun too.
  16. Will the X-51 headers give you more HP? How will this effect low end torque? Sound?
  17. Porsche has never painted a car Carrera White. They have only painted some of them Carrara White! Named after the mountain range in Italy where some of the whitest marblel in the world is harvested. :) Sorry to bust your chops....this is a very common spelling error.
  18. I'd think you'd be better off selling the C2 and then buying a GT3. If you really want to do engine work, look into RUF in Dallas. High quality and be preparred to spend about $28K. http://www.rufautocentre.com/conversions/997.asp A crate GT3 motor from Porsche, if you could get one, would be about $35-40K if I had to guess. What about the DME? Maybe you could find one on eBay or LA Distmantlers for about $25-30K.
  19. Phil Coy is also very responsive: PhilCoy@sunsetimports.com
  20. I love Zaino waxes. Z2 and Z5. Plus, Sal Zaino has good customer service. His leather care product is very good too. I really like RejeX wax too for leading edges (dead bug guts come right off front bumper and side mirrors) and wheels. Great on the entire car too. Menzerna has some great polishing products for the PC.
  21. Are you using quality CD's? New? Original? Or "burnt" CD copies? Copies don't play too well on some systems.
