  1. Yes, I experienced this with California based dealerships last year during a used Porsche search. Some may do a "multi point" inspection for a couple hundred bucks, but it is not the same as a PPI. Your best with finding a trusted indy shop for the PPI.
  2. I have the best of both Worlds! An air-cooled turbo and a Boxster S. Unfortunately, there are snobby people everywhere, not just in the Porsche circles. How about those Prius owners!! LOL. Yes, the air cooled guys are a pretty proud bunch. Don't be discouraged by one poor experience. I have heard a lot of great things about Truespeed. You should visit them if you get the opportunity. I bet your experience will be very enjoyable.
  3. If you remove the plug, what do you see behind it?
  4. I have heard good thing about The Last Detail up in the north shore. I recommend buying a Porter Cable polisher, and learning how to DIY by practicing on your daily driver or wife's car!
  5. For 3 years I have used 5W40 Red Line. Great oil. Blackstone oil analysis look excellent. In Fall of 2010 I plan to try Mobil 5W50.
  6. I live in Chicago too. Been using nitrogen for about 4 years. Works great during winter hibernation.
  7. Ratdog33!, in the near future, I see your next post being titled, "Where Is The Best Place To Purchase an OEM Clutch". Have fun & be safe.
  8. Here is an older copy of the CPO language. For added convenience, your Porsche Approved Limited Warranty coverage is included in the purchase price. Warranty repairs will be made free of charge for parts and labor at an authorized Porsche dealer.
  9. Lee, it depends. I am sure the answer to your question is in your warranty documents, so please read them to make sure. But, I'd assume, if the parts you add to the car cause an otherwise warrantied part to fail, then you're screwed. Also, if a warranty part fails, and has nothing to do related to the modded parts added, you should be covered under warranty. But I can see a real pissing match being started between what "is" covered and what "is not" covered when making modifications to the car. Thw warranty company will do everything possible to deny the claim, and by you making modifications to the car, gives the warranty company more opportunities to say "No, not covered". What warranty did you purchase? Porsche's CPO?
  10. Paul, there is NO way I would buy that car. It's been beat. There are sooooo many Porsches for sale, why deal with a car like this and its history? Pass. Keep looking. There will be another, better, car to purchase.
  11. Out of curiosity, What would you recomend to be a "high quality gauge"? I like the digital ones you can buy at most auto parts stores. About $14.
  12. Try to find a silver bulb that illuminates amber. These look best in clear corners. No "egg yolk" effect.
  13. Michellin PS2's are great tires. Not cheap. Porsche approved. Buy a high quality tire pressure gauge too, and check tires every couple weeks. Also, how often do you drive your Turbo? Tires have a tendency to "flatspot" if left in the same parking location for a couple weeks. This is a temporary flatspot, and reverses once the tires come back up to temperature on a decent drive. Pirellis are know to be flatspot prone and become noisier with age.
  14. Could be a lot of things. Even bad motor mounts. What year is your car? Mileage? Have someone drive behind you, and accelerate. Do they see your exhaust tips dip up & down? If so, it could be worn motor mounts.
  15. Very nice Porsche! I'd suggest you do a early oil change 1/2 way through your proper break-in period.
  16. Unfortunately, the words "Porsche" and "cheap" can rarely be used in the same sentence. Sunset is a great site. And they are a sponsor to this great board.
  17. You are covered under warranty. Take to dealership.
  18. Here is a sample of a DME report (not mine): Sample_DME_Report.pdf
  19. I am sorry for my smart a$$ advice. What you should really do is sell the car you have, and buy a newer Porsche with more OEM HP's.
  20. Yes, you should install a NOS system ASAP, and go hunt down those BMW's. Show them who's boss. That what all the guys do here on this Forum.
  21. Before you buy any 987 Boxster, ask for the printout from the DME and look at the number of ignitions in the 6 ranges. There may be some ignitions in range 1 and 2. But there should not be any in range 4-6. There may be some in range 3 but this would indicate abuse, and a car you should pass on. You ask about a "reasonable payment is for an '05 to '07". My answer is $Z E R O! No one needs a Porsche. These are toys. If you can't pay cash, wait until you can. Not everyone will agree with this. But it works for me. You should have a minimum of 10% of your purchase price in cash reserves too, to afford cost that will come up (and they will!), to sort out your new car. Have you looked into your insurance cost (increases)? Something else to consider.
