  2. Good. I understand. I was just giving an FYI, and drawing your attention that the best hibernation method is to park it & leave it. Not start it. Now, it seems like you know that. Hope you get this resolved soon. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
  3. Buy a quality batter maintainer, in the near future. Not a 'trickle" charger. Porsche has em, as does C-Tek. When not being driven, plug them in. Far better than the "start it every few weeks".
  4. Do it now. And include a new thermostat, serpt belt, and full coolant flush. Great insurance. And be ready for Spring.

  6. Hopefully it is NOT catastrophic. Maybe you just blew the RMS again. Let's hope.
  7. Not sure. Maybe consider a 295/30/18. I don't know what size you are running up front. On my 993 Turbo (also AWD, like you) I run 295/30/18 in the rear with 235/40/18 in the front. No issues. Stock OEM sizes were 285/30/18 and 225/40/18. I know you can convert the 993 to rear wheel drive. Not sure about the 996. I suspect you can, remember the 996 GT2 is rear wheel drive. I don't recommed you convert away from AWD. I also DON'T recommend that you mix tire brand or tire models. So, if you are replacing your rear tires, make sure your fronts are a matched set.
  8. Not sure, Otto. Sounds right. I suspect the micro switch is failing, so maybe zip tying it will depress it enough to make the difference. And you're sure the recently replaced ignition parts is not the issue? The ignition is a weak spot (wear item) in the 986/996. With the new battery, are you sure you have a good ground strap and connection? Lastly, how do we eliminate the chance that it's not the starter??
  9. Clutch microswitch?? Maybe zip tie your micro switch (so it's fully depressed), and by-pass it. If this improve, then you know the switch needs to be replaced.
  10. Donnie, I am driving (well, in April I will be again, currently in hibernation) your grandfather. She was "born" not too far from you. Isringhausen was the delivering dealership back in late 1996 to owner #1. I am at least owner #5, but have put the most miles on her. I've done more miles in our 3 years together (32Kish) than the prior owners combined.
  11. Who services your car in the Chicago area? I suspect the noise you heard was the PSM kicking in, and activting your ABS to keep the car going straight-ish. All normal. If that's what it was. Coupld also have been the combination of the PSM and salt residue bouncing around in your wheel wells. Be careful out there. The combination of cold weather, BIG F A T tires, dirty roads, gobs of turbo power (+450 HP and +425 torque) you are asking for trouble. And the PSM and AWD ain't gunna save your arse every time.:) And don't hammer on her (as you knew) until she reaches full operating temp. I might want to buy her some day.:):)
  12. Ask them for another recommendation. They should have several based on your zip code near your home and/or office location. I've also taken new tires to the Porsche dealership, and have then do the install. They just charge more.
  13. Also consider Tire Rack. They can drop ship to their list of recommended installers, who dymanic road force balance. Wheel Enhm. had a solid rep.
  14. Sounds like a "salvaged title" or something. Maybe even an accident report/damage. Or, an inoperable odometer and true mileage is unknown.
  15. Loren, what is that, really? The Motor Sound Option?
  16. Maybe it's pre-wired for an option you don't have?? Or maybe for the SAI system that was introduced into the 1996 model year???
  17. Not sure what the entire "Techart Body Kit" entails. But, bumper covers (front & rear) should be pretty easy. Things like side skirts and rear wing deck lids would prove more challenging. Also not sure of the used car market in your corner of the World, but why not just buy the 997.1 that you ultimately want? There's got to be more than just this one used Porsche in your market. Be patient. Don't rush your purchase. The right one is just around the corner.
  18. I have em too. Learned to live with it. Have even lost Concours points due to it. Every other year I clean my top with Ragg Topp cleaner prior to winter hibernation, then in the spring I hit the pristine top with 3-4 light coats of Ragg Topp protector. My cocoa top looks better than brand new. This is after 7 driving seasons and over 50,000 miles.
  19. Super Sports are a great recommendation. Buy them from places like Tire Rack, and have them drop shipped to one of Tire Racks recommended installers in your area. The key is to have them dynamic road force balanced.
  20. Something does not seem right. About the "damper" being "rusted in". Explain better, please. Photos?? As for the brake fluid, use a power bleeder, don't need to go to the dealership.
