  2. Fxin3d, I bet yours are turning yellow-ish? Very common against the Carrara White paint. I've had the same issue. I also got mine replaced under warranty. The other problem is that the edges (especially the leading edge) get very dirty and shows wax build-up. Wurth Citrus Degreaser works great on a Q-Tip. Apparently some products, like tire dressing for example, can accelerate the yollowing process. I lost my very first Concours for this very reason. But the judges help me understand how to make the necessary improvements.
  3. This is a Porsche approved oil. And the only 5W50 that is. Hard to find in the USA. I see it at Wal Mart when I go to Canada for business.
  4. I agree with RFM as it pertains to your specific car and year. I would add that you should work with a very reputable paint shop too. But the same question, for say a 993TT, the answer would be slightly different. I think the cult following, limited production numbers, and level of the Porsche enthusiast effects the answer and outcome.
  5. Bryan333, do you park outside a lot? Overnight? Just curious as to why these drains get plugged-up, and others don't. Leaves and dirt??
  6. I have had many cars over the years, and have NEVER added oil between oil changes, including my Porsche. With my 2006 987S I did the following: 1) Religiously followed the break-in procedure (not easy to do!) 2) Changed the oil at the 1,000 mile mark (I think this is a good thing and worth the $$) 3) My last 3 oil changes (yearly) have been with Red Line 5W40
  7. Bill, it all depends on the open build date allocation that the dealership has, that you decide to work with. But, in this economy, I'd expect most of them to have open dates. My personal experience was like this (I was in NO hurry, did not want the car until spring); ordered the car in August 2005 for a new 2006. The dealership had an open January 2006 build allocation. Car was built in January. Shipped in February. Arrived to the dealership in mid-Feb. I took delivery in late-late March, as agreed to in my sales negotiations. So, if you ordered the car in May. It could be built in June. Arrive by July, and you take delivery then. This is probably best case. Things that can cause delay are custom selected paint to match. This can be up to about 6 months. Same for custom leather. Between model years can also cause delays. Porsche's web site for searching dealership inventory is pretty handy, if you take your time and have patience. Maybe you can find one close in the US, work a deal over the phone, fly out and get it, drive her home, and completed most of the hard-to-do-but-important break-in period (about 2,000 miles). Have fun!

  10. Just a word of caution, Gavins, the re-limiter on our cars does not protect us from a missed down shift. Only on an over rev when up shifting. Be careful. You are asking the right question. Good job. I agree with 355bhp, I drive by tach too, not so much MPH.

  12. 1) Make sure you get a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) 2) Buy the 2007 vs the 2005 IMHO (I don't like to buy the first year of a model change) 3) Here is how to read the VIN: http://www.autohausaz.com/porsche-auto-par...on-numbers.html 4) 12th - 17th Character: The 12th through the 17th character in your Porsche's VIN indicate the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled off the manufacturer's assembly line. The last four characters are always numeric.
  13. Well, not exactly. I have seen people add just those parts, aftermarket through Porsche. But, a pretty safe assumption.
  14. What color is your leather? Year? Black Sand Beige Blue Terricotta Cocoa These are just some (most).

David, this may be a very good method, but the problem I see is if (and this is a BIG "if) the piston ring siezed to the cylinder wall, the power and torque of the starter motor could do some damage to the ring, piston or cylinder. The method I use and mention above gives you a little insurance before you crank the car. When I start my car each spring, it sounds great. No noise. No tapping. No smoke. Nothing. Sounds like a pre-warmed engine. I change the oil prior to hibernation. And use a high quality oil (Red Line 5W40 not on the Porsche approved list. I know!). Garage is heated.
  16. On a 987S the standard leather package is just leather seating surfaces and shift knob/boot. When full leather is selected (about an additional $2,000) you get the above and a leather dash, door panels, leather arched area by the instruments, and leather by the side panels of the radio area. I have full leather, and love the look, feel ,and smell. Worth it IMHO. There are a ton of additional items you can have leather covered; including items like the center console, air vent slots, visors, fuse box cover, door closures. The list is endle$$ and can become very expensive.
  17. I hibernate my car every winter (the past 3 years). I plug in the Porsche maintainer, and don't touch the car until April. Before I start the car in the Spring, I put the car in 5th gear, and manualy roll the car out of the garage and partially down the driveway. I can do this by myself with a few good tugs on the real wheel. You can hear the engine turnover. Then I start the car as normal.
  18. Also keep in mind that the difference between the min and max mark is about 1.2 liters, making each segment equal to approx 0.4 liters.
  19. Ask the parts guys at our sponsor www.sunsetporsche.com. They have good pricing too (approx. $310). Keep in mind the RS 60 has a modified version of PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust), so, it may not be plug-and-play.

  21. I find mine to be very-very accurate. The most accurate reading will be the one first thing in the morning, not the one at the gas station. Getting an oil change should be factored into your "purchase price" so go get an oil change, make sure they drian the warm/hot oil for a minimum of 20 minutes, and then refill with the correct Porsche approved oil and quantity. Then you will have a basis point, and know that the oil is proper and clean.
