  1. How to remove the CD Changer and install a Denison 500 into a Porsche 911 997 How to remove the CD Changer and install a Denison 500 into a Porsche 911 997 My 997 has both the factory phone kit and CD changer, I have replaced both with a Dension 500 Gateway and Dension BTA 1500 Bluetooth adaptor. I couldn’t find a “how to” or even a recommended location for the Dension so I set about my car and thought I’d do a write up to help (or put off) any other prospective owners. First thing I did was remove the drivers seat as I know the factory phone kit is underneath it. 2. How to remove the CD Changer and install a Denison 500 into a Porsche 911 997 My 997 has both the factory phone kit and CD changer, I have replaced both with a Dension 500 Gateway and Dension BTA 1500 Bluetooth adaptor. I couldn’t find a “how to” or even a recommended location for the Dension so I set about my car and thought I’d do a write up to help (or put off) any other prospective owners. First thing I did was remove the drivers seat as I know the factory phone kit is underneath it. Firstly slide the drivers seat back so you can get to the from bolts, there are plastic covers covering the bolts which you can slide off by gently prising up the inner catch (see below) The socket required is female or external torx Next slide the seat forwards to get to the rear bolts Then slide the seat back to mid position and raise it up so you can get to the electrical connectors As mine is fully electric I had to keep the battery connected so I could remove the bolts, once I removed them and put the seat into the middle and raised it I removed the negative lead from the battery Underneath the seat are 2 connectors (on mine anyway) a yellow and black multiplug To remove the yellow one slide the black retaining clip out and to remove the black one press the catch in and pull the socket out Now lift the front of the seat up and feed the fires out through the bottom of the seat frame (this is why you raise the seat to make it easier to get the cables out Carefully remove the seat from the car, I covered the sill and turned the seat so it was facing away from me and then lifted it out backwards You should then have this view The factory phone kit is under here, to remove this cover pull back on the carpet towards the front of the car and remove the 2 x 10mm bolts The cover then lifts up and slides out, there are a number of leads strapped to the cover so be gentle with it. I’d already replaced the factory phone kit with a ViseeO so I knew there was an available MOST connector under the seat As the Gateway 500 replicates the CD changer the car wouldn’t recognise the Gateway 500 until I disconnected the CD changer. I worked this out by trial and error. DVD Navigation and CD changer Remove the covers, pull off the rubber boot trim and remove the 8 posidrive screws and once you’ve disconnected the boot light the plastic surround lifts out There is bit of carpet trim across the back of the navigation and CD changer area that lifts out once the 2 clips at the back are unclipped Removing the CD Changer was a PITA, 3 screws on either side however the rearmost one on the driver’s side was covered by the brake master cylinder so I couldn’t remove it. I tried to slide the DVD navigation drive forwards however I couldn’t get to the back of it to disconnect the wires so that wouldn’t slide out either. That’s when I put it back together had a couple of drinks and slept on it In the morning I realised that the mounting bracket for the CD Changer and DVD navigation is held in with clips, I carefully pulled out the 2 I could see at the front below the CD changer then pulled the whole unit forwards I then trial fitted the Dension to the MOST connector from the back of the CD changer, connected up the power lead and iPod. Before connecting the battery back up I put the drivers seat back in and connected the yellow and black leads up so I wouldn’t get any nasty airbag warning lights. This worked so I then test fitted the Dension under the seat as I wanted the iPod and leads to go into the drivers armrest and not have it either under the bonnet or into the glovebox through the bulkhead For the fibre-optic MOST bus to work it has to be a ring so every connector has to be in use. As I was disconnecting the CD changer and fitting the Gateway 500 under the drivers seat I had to make a loop for the CD changer MOST connector. Dension give 2 leads and connectors with the kit and I used one to make a loop that I plugged into the CD Mulitchanger MOST connector. The kit comes with a back to back connector that you put 2 of the fibre optic cables in and press closed with your fingers. I could have taken the MOST connector apart and put the back to back on those however I had the spare lead and wanted to be able to change it back quickly if required I took the DVD Navigation bracket off of the CD Multichanger bracket and slotted that into place where the CD changer had been previously, I also slotted the MOST wiring from the CD changer back through the hole in the carpet With the extra bit of carpet back in place the wires are now mostly out of site and with the plastic surround back on they can’t be seen. I also taped over the power plug from the CD Changer and tucked it away behind the trim Next job was getting access to the centre armrest to feed the cables in for the iPod, USB and Aux The rubber mat lifts out then there are 4 torx screws holding a plastic plate down Next to allow the tunnel to be lifted I removed the cover under the handbrake and removed the torx screw This gave sufficient vertical movement to get my hand underneath the tunnel, I checked that there was sufficient clearance next to the power socket for the leads to come through by taking a picture from the underside Using a 19mm holesaw I cut a hole next to the power outlet in the armrest I then fed the cables through the hole and down behind the carpet into the well beneath the drivers seat Next on the list was sticking down the Dension unit and getting power to it, the MOST lead fitted easily and there is a handy earthing point, I broke into the loom from the old phone module for a live feed (Green/Red) Next job is running the mic for the hands free kit, it could go on the A-Pillar however best performance is from above the windscreen The trim pulls down fairly easily with fingers and/or a trim tool (don’t use screwdrivers), I fed the cable above the roof lining Then across to the A-Pillar, with the aid of a trim tool I pulled away the trim and fed the lead through to the outside, I’d already pulled back the rubber door seal to get access to the other side of the trim A simple case of running the cable down behind the rubber trim to the sill, to remove the sill there are some black blanking plugs which you remove them used an allen key to undo 2 bolts, the trim then lifts up Picture of the bolts Then just run the lead under the carpet to the well under the seat I taped the mic lead into the BTA1500 Then cabled tied everything up Next job was to replace the metal lid and bolt it back down, making sure that I didn’t trap any wires when putting the lid back in place I’m always amazed at how many tools I end up getting out for even the simplest of jobs I then fitted the cable gland for the iPod and screwed the Aux box into the armrest Job jobbed!
