  1. You are lucky to have easy access to that engine. Had the same issue with a 986 Boxster. After an hour of understanding how to access the engine, I looked at the rotor in the ignition system. And it was bad. At the same time, I've changed the coil ignition pack, the alternator and the sparkplugs.
  2. I once owned a Porsche Boxster 1997 and had the same problem. Few sensors may be broken, or tiny objects may be in the way. (I have a 335i and the other day I couldn't close the roof in the trunk because a 3mm glove was in the way ...) Check the battery and the fuses. But there I see it went off tracks ? Any pictures ?
