  1. Any owner can get the iPAS codes for a car they own. However some dealerships make it a pain in the ***. (ie one refused and other it took me 3 min in person) Then use a PIWIS to code the keys (Keys need their own unique code on white tag attached when new)
  2. Sent ya a PM. I could use a set of the old style car mounts.
  3. If your windows properly drop when opening the door then I would agree the issue is likely with the aftermarket radio install. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/788923-post3.html
  4. Just make sure you get an alignment done if adding spacers.
  5. Have you checked to see if the plug is loose on the cab top controller under the back? Edit: Reason why I bring it up is that the SmartTop device has the ability to affect how the rear windows operate, maybe there is a short there?
  6. Flood damage car? Why are you having to rewire the windows?
  7. I see you are in CA. If you are thinking of a Cabriolet I have mine listed for sale here in the bay area: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/automobiles-sale/307561-02-cabriolet-blue-tan-nice-added-oem-parts.html Well maintained with records and OEM turbo and GT3 styling.
  8. Did your hook lose the plastic sleeve that activates the final switch? If you already opened the latch you can try and bend the microswitches a bit to ensure they activate.
  9. -1 for selling copyrighted information for a profit.
  10. The more I think about it, the timing should not have "jumped" unless the mechanic did NOT lock the cams which is a very simple process. Armed with the error codes it could have just been a simple replacement of the variocam plus actuators. (two on each bank ~$150) Actually it is very likely the mechanic did lock the cams but was not familiar with the 02+ special process for replacing the tensioners and setting timing of the bank. You cannot just lock at TDC and pull + replace the tensioner and expect to have proper timing. You have to rotate to 60* prior to the TDC (OF THAT BANK!) when you are placing the tensioner. Then rotate to TDC to remove "slack" (created by the movement of the variocam plus vanes) from the chain as you are setting timing. Otherwise your variocam plus "mechanism" will not have the proper angle. (sorry if not making sense) Again much easier on 99-01.
  11. Resetting the timing on the 02+ engines is much more difficult that the earlier ones. Unless you want to fork out $1k just for the tools then get it towed to a mechanic. Sounds like the mechanic you used caused more harm than good. It is highly unlikely that the variocam plus mechanism wore out (guessing that's where the $7k figure came from). I am shocked that you didnt at least get error codes from the initial issue.
  12. Engine could be sold on craigslist or eBay for ~6-7k depending on what is included. Check out my 996 for sale if looking for update! http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/automobiles-sale/307561-02-cabriolet-blue-tan-nice-added-oem-parts.html
  13. Did you confirm the ground strap on passanger side of engine was reinstalled?
  14. Pretty sure the 99-01 is a return style while the 02+ is returnless. So not compatable. Looking for 02+ style I have a complete pump. PM me.
  15. If you dont have the time to make the engine run well, take the 02 engine out and sell it. Buy a 99-01 engine, A correctly opperating 02 engine in a earlier car should increase the value since higher HP/TQ. I'm guessing you have an engine harness from the 02 engine. No idea if those pinouts match the body harness of the 99 DME.....worst case the engine harness catches fire. Best case nothing happens...... Any idea on the engine harness, fuel rails, injectors etc? What is 02 and what is 99? Do you have access to PIWIS?
  16. CAN bus is just two wire communication so add the pins+wires with swapping the instrument cluster and HVAC. (repin the 99 harness to the 02 cluster) Fuel sytem can be converted to returnless by swapping the complete pump but you need a fuel pump pigtail to add the lines for DME 7.8 control. (should have 02 fuel rails on the newer engine) Already noted was the e-Gas pedal swap and issues with needing 02+ DME/immobo combo (or at min the VIN from each and good friends at the dealership)
  17. Rewiring the body harness to mate with the 02+ engine harness could work. Other things would need to be swapped also (Dash cluster, HVAC, gas pedal and fuel pump) which might make it not worthwhile.... I had colected a bunch of the swap parts planning to do something similar. I decided the time required wouldn't be worth it. PM me if you need some parts.
  18. Not good. In the end you are likely going to have to use a PIWIS to run a re-calibration anyways. So I would recommend going to a dealer to have them reset the process correctly.
  19. I think the OP is missing parts from his LN puller.
  20. So the IMS bearing has a bolt through it. I don't see why the bolt would be any different than the LN one. But if so, just weld two nuts together that have the proper threading. BOOM translation unit for the IMS bolt to threading on the LN puller.
  21. PM sent. I have IPD plenum and also Fabspeed intake for sale for 996.
  22. Glad that worked. Now it needs to have calibration sequence run on PIWIS.
  23. Perhaps tighten the portion on the clamshell motor that it a clutch to the clamshell. Accessable behind rear seats. Shouldn't be so tight that system binds or so loose that doesn't grab. I forget the exact number of turns. Can you tell if the clamshell motor is "requested" to close the shell? If not then perhaps the canvas hook sensor isn't activating. Common problem, search a thread I did on repairing top opperation. Threw in a few pics of my issues, I had like 3-4 on my 1999.
