  1. In my 996 the switch is very sensitive to how it is placed. One time I was vacuming my car and I knocked off the switch. I put it back on and couldn't get the seat to move forward it would only go back. I drove over to my mechanic and all he did was take it off and put it back on again. I had misaligned it slightly. He said unless it is on perfectly it won't work properly. Does your switch come off? The 997 may be different but you may want to take off the the little plastic fob and put it back on again. Make sure it precisley on the little pin. Hope this helps. Phillipj
  2. Anyone have any stories or experiences with "Dealer Services" extended warranties? The I got a call from them today and they quoted me $2,075 for a 5 year warranty on my 996 (which has 66k on it.) They seemed a bit sketchy to me. I went to their website but websites mean nothing. Their website is www.enaws.com I told the guy I had to do more research before I could make a decision. Any info on these guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phillipj

  4. Actually Coryey I think they only change the plenum on the X51 cars as the intake manifolds have a different opening to them and it is to accomodate this. The plenum is changed but just for that purpose, it is still the basic design as the non X51 part. If the RSS plenum works it would probably work even better with the x51 with the intake, throttle body and not to mention the cleaned up heads the X51 has along with the better exhaust manifolds. Dave I don't think it's a plastic part like the non powerkit models, atleast on the 996 it's not. my feed back: i was goig to post a seprate post on my mods, but here it is. i first installed the rss plenum , and saw an immediate response in throttle and it pulls harder at speeds. when i rev the engine i do here a squish sound of the intake ??? anybody experience that. after that i installed the x51 carbon fibre air box, x51 headers, and modified the regular mufflers mk ii mod, and vow i even saw more difference then before, the car pulls harder now and take off is a lot easier and faster :) and exhaust sound is little louder and deeper, thats what i was looking for (200 $). next is euro sport suspension, i am assembling the suspension kit in my basement (winter project) cheers Ronnie Ronnie, Glad to hear you have had the same kind of results I have had with the RSS plenum. Does the "squish" sound happen right when you hit the throttle? Like a sucking sound? I have that as well. But it's not a bad thing. I have a 996 with a chip, airbox mod and mufflers. All I can do is the headers and I think I have squeezed every last hp out of the 3.4. Phillipj

  6. Porshester, Just to go over your questions. No CEL (it has nothing to do with electronics and is after the MAS so it wouldn't trigger one.) No loss of Torque. The power band is the same just with more grunt. I really love it. I bought mine from Chuck Jones here on Renntech. He had a fire which totalled his car and he sold the mods he had done. That price from Porsche is good! Is it an RSS? Mine is the RSS. I have had mine on for two weeks now. Just today I went on one of my favorite on - ramps and was really impressed by the difference. It's really quick. I raced a couple of young guys in a new 997 4S the other day. They barely were able to pull me. The driver had a pasenger and I was alone. He pulled up to me when we came to a stop and said. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO THAT THING?" Sweet... Worth every penny. Are you going to install it yourself? It's a pretty easy job. I can tell you one tip that will make the job even easier if you are. Let me know. You can PM me and I'll give you my cell number. Hope this helps. I have no bias on this. If it didn't make a difference I would let you know. I'm sure your S with your current mods is really quick already. This mod should bring a smile to your face.   7. I can help you with the leather problem Someone posted this product months ago on this forum. It is the best stuff Ihave ever used. Here is a link to their site http://www.advleather.com/ My advice would be to call them and tell them your situation. They are very helpful and can recommend the right product.   8. Just wanted to put my experience here. I just installed one last week on my 3.4 996. There is a noticable improvement in power from 4500 to 6500 rpm. I have no idea what 10 hp compared to 20 hp feels like. I'm very happy I made the mod. I would no way put the stock one back on. I have the GIAC chip, Fabspeed intake and Fabspeed mufflers. I mentioned in a previous post, if anyone is going to install one I can give them some simple tips to make the job much easier. Glad we can have a good discussion on this topic. Phillipj

  10. Beware of the "stealer-dealer". Take it a to a reputable Porsche tech in your area. I have never taken my car to my dealer and never will. They(the dealer in my area) are crooks and think all Porsche owners are stupid and are willing to pay anything just because they say so. Good luck, Phillipj
  11. No need for condescending comments. If your snide remark “Try one your Butt might like it if you get it off your head” indicates I have my head up my a$$ look at your own retort. Dyno results from an unsubstantiated source (European Car) show increases of 10 to 11 hp and 15 to 18 ft/lbs of torque. That is a far cry from the Road Sport Supply claim of increases of 27 hp and 25 ft/lbs of torque. That’s 59% to 63% less hp power and 28% to 40% less torque. It’s seemingly apparent that the manufacturer is overly optimistic with their claimed power increases. I’m curious but what kind of power gains where you expecting and what did you actually archive when you installed your RSS Plenum? I agree there is no need for snide remarks on this forum. It's supposed to be a discussion. Before I installed the plenum I had no anticipation of 27hp gains. All I hoped for was a noticible gain. That is what I got. We all know that aftermarket folks exagerrate the gains from their products (The MAF cleaner says you will gt 10-12 rear wheel horspower gains LOL!) Mods are a hobby and some individuals like doing them. Whether they are worth the money or not is not really the question. Hopefully someone will actually do an unbiased dyno run with the RSS plenum and post the results. Phillipj

  14. Just replaced my stock plenum with the RSS plenum over the weekend. I have never really done a DIY on my car so I was a bit nervous. Thanks to Chuck Jones advice (who sold me the plenum) the job was quite simple. If I did it again I could do it in half the time. I have to say I'm quite pleased with the performance with the new plenum. The performance is most noticible between 4500 and 6500 rpm. The car gets to 100 mph much quicker than before. I have no idea what the gains really are. I'm going to do a run against my friend who has a 997s coupe that is chipped. I have run against him before so I will be able to gauge the difference. If anyone is planning to do this mod themselves pm me and I can give them some tips to make the job even easier. Tools needed are minimal. The instructions that come with the plenum are okay but not detailed enough. :cheers: Phillipj

  20. helpI was driving my 99 996 C2 this morning and ran a couple errands. I went to get gas and noticed coolant dripping heavily out of the drivers side rear. The leak is near the back of the motor just near the cat (See attatched Picture.) I got no CEL or any other warnings. No power loss or anything else. I was very near my home so I drove it back to my house. Temp gauge was fine on the way home. Any ideas on what could have happened before I tow it to the mechanic on Monday? A coolant hose? The engine is still too hot for me to even get under the car to take a look.. Thanks in advance. Phillipj
  21. Man, I'm sorry so many people are having problems with those K&N kits I would hope that more people would be more cautious (and read the feedback here) when thinking about those kits. I hear nothing but CEL and fried MAF stories. Not to mention that when you end up putiing the stock system back on you have drilled holes in your car! Amazing that K&N would still promote these kits as viable for Porsches. I have done things to my 996 that were a mistake as well. Phillipj

  23. Congrats on your Porsche. I have to agree with you. I had two BMW's. An early M6 and a E36 M3. They were great cars but had a lot of problems. I will never have any other sports car other than a Porsche (Although a Ferrari would be sweet!) Cheers, Phillipj
  24. Hi after reading your Question and reading answers from the other forum members I have to put in my two cents. I have also asked the same question and came up with the same answers. According to one of the members who is pro on not touch the vehicle, you should not do anything as the car from the factury is perfect. I realize the engineers that work on porsche are very good at there jobs but, does it not make sense that other engineers are as good or better in designing and making aftermarket products to improve your vehicle. Look at all the race cars and the products they use to get more power for there vehicles. Also Porsche dealers sell aftermarket products to improve the vehicles they are selling so all in all I have come up with that all thoses aftermarket product can not all be garbage. When you look at the whole picture you can't say porsche is perfect, because there would be no other cars to buy. I say you have to make your car your own. Thats just my two cents. Since everyone is giving their opinion on this touchy subject I thought I would throw mine in as well. I have 3 performance mods on my C2 996. Fabspeed mufflers, chip and cold air kit. In my opinion the car runs better and sounds better. I certainly did'nt get huge horsepower gains. I have driven my friends 996 that is totally stock. Mine simply runs and sounds better. He agrees. I have other Porsche drivers stop me and ask me what I've done to the engine. They like the way it sounds. Just my opinion and my experience. I love the changes I made. I also agree that if was that easy to get another 30 to 50 horsepower from an exhaust system Porsche would have already done it. Porsches "power kit" for the Carrera costs $16,500 and gives you 50 more horsepower. That pretty much says it all. Horsepower costs money period. Hope no one gets mad at me. :cheers: Phillipj
