  1. How was your problem diagnosed? What was the cost for labor? Thanks for your help Phillip
  2. My engine let go yesterday with no warning with 68k miles. Now i'm one of the casualties of the 996 failures. Oil in the coolant resevoir an water in the crankcase  I do not have an extended warranty  My question is what are my options for a new one? What is the cost? What places do I contact to look for one? New? Used? Rebuilt? Anyone who has shared this experience please let me know how they handled it and their advice. Thanks in advance. Phillipj
  3. Okay, I just bought my car 3 months ago. I was driving yesterday and the coolant light came on. I put distilled water in the coolant tank and the light went off. I noticed some crud floating in the water, I drove home last night in the pouring rain and thought I would check it this morning. Bad , bad news. There is oil in my coolant resivoir and the oil is foamy on the dipstick. I had no loss of power of CEL's when driving it. I put more water in this morning and it seems to be leaking out from the area that would be diagnosed as a faulty water pump. I know from reading the horror stories on this site that water in the oil is a death sentence. Is this true? Suggestions on what to do next? My wife thinks I'm an idiot for buying a car that is known to have this kind of failure. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
  4. If you do a search you will find a plethora of opinions on lubricants. Good luck, Phillipj
  5. I'm waiting for my government bailout to arrive so I can start a similar project  :D That is really amazing. All that CF makes me drool...... Awesome car... No pics of the motor?
  6. Loren, Here are the pics. I'm very happy with it. Phillipj
  7. Thanks Loren. I forgot to use the hairdryer. That probably would have made the removal easier. Getting that adhesive off is the real pain in the ars. Happy that it's finished. It really looks nice.
  8. Just tackled removing the stock sills and replaced with CF sills. I bought the "Max Motorsports" CF sills with logo's for $260. They are very high quality and fit perfectly. I thought I would share my experience in case anyone was planning on doing this. I thought this would be a relatively easy job. It was not! :( I used a 3M all purpose adhesive remover to loosen the edge. I then used plasic putty knife to get the edge started (buy several of these becuase you will break them.) I was able to pry the edge up and start to pull it up. I tried not to break the original but that was impossible! I finally got both of them off and then the work started. The old adhesive tape was really thick. I had to repeatedly soak the old tape with the adhesive remover and the scrape the layers (of goo) off with the straight edge putty tool. It took me about an hour and a half to get all that adhesive off. I then cleaned the surface with a neutral cleaner. Placing he new sills took only moments to place. If anyone does this job make sure to place the sills flush against the inner body. Before doing it "live"position them and get a good idea of where they need to go. Peel off the backing of the tape and take your time with the placement. You only get one shot to place this. If you try to re-position them once they are on you risk breaking the sill and compromising the new adhesive. The job is finsishd and it looks beautiful. :clapping: I would charge a lot of money to do that job for someone else! :D If anyone is planning to do this job PM me and I would be glad to share any other information I may have left out.. Phillipj
  9. That is awesome. Congrats on the milestone!
  10. Personally I like the OEM Porsche pads. They work great for the street and don't give off a lot of dust. I get all of my parts from JPLV Porsche parts.com They have great prices and very fast shipping. Make sure you order the backing plates and shims. If you are not sure what to order send them a mail and they will tell you. Here is the link http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...CFQpzHgod3jRJrQ[/url] Hope this helps Phillipj
  11. Thanks everyone! I will do the job this weekend and post some pics. It's going to look really nice. Phillipj
  12. I just purchsed CF door sills for my Cab. Looking for advice on removing the stock sills and prepping for the new ones. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Phillipj
  13. Just wanted to thank RFM and others for all the advice on my Cab. I adjusted the door hinge and used a little silicone lube and the rattle is gone :D Also I followed all of the tips from other folks on getting rid of squeaks and rattles in my convertible top. I have eliminated 99% of them. This is an amazing forum. I can't imagine how much money I would have spent if I had taken the car to a mechanic or (God forbid) the dealer. Thanks to everyone and thanks to Loren for this forum. :renntech: Phillipj
  14. $5k for a clutch???? Should be half that amount.. Remember that a dealer charges $225 for an oil change and an independent charges around $125. Same oil, same filter......... Stay far away from dealers
  15. Sharp, Try this place. I get almost all my parts from them. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...m?siteid=214626 Maybe they ship to Canada. Good luck, Phillip
  16. No it's not that Loren. It was making the same sound before I installed the new rotors and pads. I found a link on how to do the adjustment. Strange though because I have to pull up the handbrake lever all the way to get it to engage. How could it be dragging if it needs to be adjusted? Could just one side be out of adjuatment? Thank you
  17. RFM, Can you tell me how to do this? Thank you! Phillipj
  18. I have a grinding sound coming from the drivers rear wheel. I just replaced the rotors and pads (all Porsche OEM with backing plates) My guess is that it's coming from the emergency drum brake. The handbrake seems to be fine. If I roll the car back and forth in the garage (with power off) I can hear the grinding sound. Any advice? Difficult to access the brake? Anyone had a similar problem? Thanks in advance
  19. I have a very annoying rattle in my drivers side door. It's an intermittant "clicking" sound. It makes me crazy. I have almost emiminated all squeaks and rattles (with the top up) except this one. This is the only rattle in the car with the top down. Is it difficult to get the door panel off? Is it worth it for a DIY? If anyone has had a similar problem and has some insight or advice please let me know. Thank you!
  20. I love the look!.. The anodized blue with the silver body is nice. Very cool. I have 19's on my 996 and it is a big difference in ride quality compared to the 18's. Next time you have the wheels off clean those calipers with Simple Green and a toothbrush. I'm really anal about the rotor hubs being clean as well. Post pics after you get the wheels fixed. Really beautiful coupe! :D Phillipj
  21. Found it for $82.50 from JPAM Porsche Parts. Thanks again Loren. You can remove this post. Phillip
  22. Loren, I cannot find anyone online who has this part. Suggestions? Thank you!
  23. 2000 C2 Cab I'm having trouble finding the part number for this item. Does anyone know it? Loren? I got this photo from "Zookie" who is member. Your help is very much appreciated. Phillipj
