  1. Hi Phillip, is $8,500 including your 3.4 core being returned to Porsche...? I think your making the right move here... brand new motor... you don't want anybody's else's problems... cause you never really know what the "other" used motor had done to it... new with warranty is best... and the 3.6 will make your car really move! Pete, Probably be more like $9k with the core return. Some dealers will let you return the 3.4 core in exchange for the 3.6 and some won't. Sunset unfortunetly won't...
  2. I have run out of patience with this engine chase. I'm buying a new 3.6 from Porsche for $8500 and be done with it. At least I get a warranty and I know where the engine came from. Will install on the 19th and will have the most expensive 2000 C2 on the block :( Thanks for all of your input. Phillip
  3. Anybody else have some feedback?
  4. Hi Phillip, I don't think the X51 will be more reliable than the 3.6... your pushing more HP out of the same block so there is more stress everywhere... if anything the standard 3.6 is a better long term motor in my opinion. Thanks for the input Pete...
  5. My engine replacement drama for my 2000 C2 continues. As I have posted here before I'm doing a conversion from a 3.4 to a 3.6 I purchased a 2004 3.6 from a dismantler back east on the 9th of December. After many phone calls in the last weeks wondering where the hell my engine was.... Well it seems the trucking company lost it!!!  . Oh My....... I cancelled the purchase and have gone on a search for another engine. I found an X-51 3.6 (locally in L.A.) with 20k miles for $9k. I have another lead on a standard low mile 3.6 which will probably be around $7k. Question is.... Is the X-51 a significanly better engine than the base 3.6? (I'm well aware of the HP difference) Are the pistons and sleeves different? Is it more bullet-proof than the base 3.6? Should spend the extra $ and go with the X-51 knowing that it will be more relaible in the long run than the base 3.6? I'm going to keep the car long term. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Phillipj
  6. No Movie???? Oh that's right my work blocks You Tube........
  7. Paul, That is so cool!!!! :clapping:
  8. I never got any CEL or any other warning before my engine failed. Although my water pump shaft didn't shear off it was the cause of the failure. Got no CEL or overheating warning. I wish I would have
  9. Great pictures and comments. Thanks for the detailed commentary as well. Please keep us updated on the final install!
  10. The alternator is in the back (engine compartment). To the left below the oil filler tube. It that thing that looks like an alternator  Just playin :D Your radiators are located on both sides of your front bumper in front of each wheel. If you have Tip trans there will be a third one in the center. I'd bet that your braking problems are coming from your wheels. I don't believe those 19's off the 997 will work on an early 996.
  11. Todd, I realize that you are very knowledgeable when it comes to these swaps. I have spoken to several people that have done the swap recently with Roock and are very happy with it. They have had no problems or issues to speak of. Roock told me that they had many problems at the beginning but were able to work them out. Early problems were TC and cruise control not working. But now that have resolved these issues. I would like to hear your feedback on this. You can PM me if you like. One other question...Did you buy all of your engines from Porsche? Thank you, Phillip
  12. Sometimes I wonder if it is all worth it. I have no idea where my engine is. The company I bought it from (although very reputable) has zero customer service. All I know is that the engine has been shipped but they can't tell me what date it was shipped :o   I WAS SUPPOSED TO TOW THE CAR IN MONDAY WITH THE TECH FOR THE SWAP TO ARRIVE FROM ATLANTA THE SAME DAY. Now I have to make new plans. My engine is on a truck somewhere between Wicsconsin and Los Angeles  Seems like the universe is trying to make this as difficult as possible for me. Happy New Year Everyone. I will deal with this again in 2009! :D Phillipj :renntech:
  13. Kedf1, thanks for the awesome info. I really appreciate it. Phillip
  14. I have the tow hook. The hole in the front bumper does not match up with the hook recepticle (nice :o ) There is no hole in the rear bumper and I have no idea where to make one. Of course I will get a flat bed. I'm using my mechanics tow service. Thanks for all the advice
  15. Okay my saga continues with my freakin car. I have to tow my car next and my aftermarket bumpers do not have holes for the tow hook. The front has one but it doesn't line up with the hook point. The car must be towed from the rear. Where can the tow truck place the hook in the rear so as not to damage anything? I'll destroy the front bumper if he tried from the front. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Phillipj
  16. RFM, Your insights and knowledge have helped me countless times. :notworthy: Great to have you as an official moderator!! Happy New Year! Phillipj
  17. Thanks Loren. I looked in my 2000 C2 manual and there is no mention of a procedure to open the trunk with a dead battery.
  18. I have no terminal in my fuse box so what do I do now??
  19. Thanks Paul, That's what I thought..... A lot of cash for 40hp. Unless price is no object.. :D
  20. Check your engine dipstick to make sure you have no water/oil intermix. A water pump is what caused my engine to fail wiithout any temp warning. I hope it is something simple. Whatever you do DO NOT START OR DRIVE THE CAR. Get it to your meachanic asap. Good luck! Phillipj
  21. RFM, The problem is I can't open the trunk to get to the battery. I guess I will just tow the car as is. I was hoping to get the trunk open so that the mechanic could get to the battery easier. I won't try again with the booster Can you give me an idea where the emergency cable is for the trunk? The right side wheel well? Where approximately? Thanks, Phillip
  22. My battery is completely dead and I'm trying to get my trunk latch to function. The engine is dead so i'm not trying to start the car. I just want to get the trunk latch to work. I got the Black and Decker DC port starter/booster. I can't seem to get it to work. Do you have to turn the key to the accessory position? No matter what I try the unit beeps telling me something is not connected properly (beeps repeatedly) I did get some temporary power to the interior when I hit the "Boost" switch to the interior (dome light, door chime) but the trunk and engine cover levers were still frozen. Then all power goes off again. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Phillipj
  23. I wasn't aware that the SC would give you a 150hp??? I thought it was more like 50+? Can anyone clarify?
