  1. First of all don't panic. That frothy stuff on your oil filler tube is common. A couple things to check to give you some piece of mind... Is the coolant in your resevoir clean? Does it look like it's contaminated? Check your dipstick..Is you oil clean? What you don't want to see is oil in your coolant and visa-versa. If your oil is clean and your coolant is clean you don't have a serious issue. Is the water pump the original water pump on the car? Any leaks from the water pump? You could have a failing AOS (no big deal repair wise) There are many threads here on that subject. I personally wouldn't drive the car anymore until you have your problem diagnosed. I'm sure some other people her will add to your questions. Let us know what you find..
  2. Awesome thread, Azzar0, Congtrats on doing the 60k service yourself. That is very cool. I have done almost all the work on my car as well. (except where I needed a lift..I like you do not like being enderneath the car on jacks.) I took my rear bumper off yesterday just to see how it comes off lol! I was able to clean everything and polish up my pretty stainless Fabspeed mufflers (I swear the car is faster with shiny mufflers :D .) If anyone in the L.A. area has a DIY planned and would like some help I would be glad to offer my assistance. I would really like to do a clutch job with someone and see that process. Congrats on your success and that money you saved is sweet indeed!! :clapping:
  3. Can't help you with your boost question but ... :welcome: Nice car btw!
  4. I have tried that in the past, it didn't get much stuff off. Not strong enough I guess... Hope you find something that works :D
  5. I would ask RFM about this. All I know is that Porsche has had a lot of problems with the 05's. I have not heard if it is just the 3.6's or the 3.8's as well.
  6. Turtle Wax has a spray Tar & bug remover which I have found takes off just about anything without harming the paint. This may not be strong enough depending on the amount of rubber stuck to your paint
  7. Lets be nice here. It accomplishes nothing to attack eachother in a forum. Everyone has their opinion. That is the purpose of the forum correct? This oil debate is a personal choice. The best advice is to change our oil more frequently whatever oil we choose. Can't we all just get along??
  8. Benjamin, I have heard that all the 3.6 remans have the new bearing upgrade. I'm sure Jake Raby would know for sure. He might be a good resource.
  9. That seems to be the case. That is why Porsche is being more compliant about replacing engines for free even out of warranty. According to RFM (a moderator here) 2005 was Porsche's worst engine build year ever.
  10. RFM just meant MY 2005 (2005 build & model year) and VIN (vehicle identification number).
  11. Man those dealers are super smart.   Now we can all feel confident when we take our cars to them...
  12. Fix it now or it will strand you. They key will get stuck in the ignition and then you are screwed. Do not take it to a dealer. This is a pretty easy DIY if you are patient and have deterity. Go to the search field and search "Ignition switch". You will find many threads and instructions. Parts are only around $20.00. Here is one link for instructions http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/ignitionswitchreplacement Make sure you read the threads for the correct part number and other installation tips. I believe you either go to Audi or VW for the part. Porsche only sells the whole assembly  Good luck!!
  13. Darrin, I just did mine a couple of weeks ago. The adjuster wheel is more of an "up down" adjustment. If I remember correctly moving down the wheel (the bottom of the wheel) tightens and the top loosens. I guess you could equate that to clockwise.. Pretty easy to figure out (once you have found the freakin adjuster that is!) This is a great opportunity to give those calipers a good cleaning (if your as compulsive about clean as I am.) Success!
  14. Maurice, What is lithium grease? I have never heard off that... Thanks!
  15. Use the search tool and search "engine swap" and you will get a plethora of information. Suncoast Porsche will give you a partial (about 75%) core return on a 3.4 when buying a 3.6 or 3.8. Not sure about a 3.2. Give them a call..
  16. It seems to work better than anything else and doesn't degrade. I think that it is used a lot in marine applications. It's expensive but a small tube will last a long time. Shop it on the internet and try to find the best deal. You can try the other lubricants you mentioned to see if they will work first I had a lot of squeaks and creaks in my Cabrio and the Krytox got rid of 90% of the noises. Good luck!

  18. I think that you should always go for the newest one you can afford. Have a PPI done by a Porsche expert to look for issues. Have a compression check and also check for over-revs (Porsche tester.) Always look for oil leaks (RMS) and make sure the car has all service records. Carfax is good. Don't buy a car that has been tracked (at least I wouldn't.) My biggest recommendation is to BE PATIENT! Look at lots of cars!! There are some amazing deals out there right now. If you have cash you are king. If you stay on top of maintenence these cars are very reliable and trouble free. This board has saved me from thousands in uneccessary repairs.. Learn to do things yourself and it will serve you well. And definetly get an extended warranty. Although it's unlikely 996 engines do fail (mine did) even with low miles. If you have a warranty you will have some piece of mind. Good luck!!!
  19. Interesting..... Perhaps Loren or RFM (moderators) can give some advice here. Perhaps the inclement weather in Moscow could attribute to your coils going bad. I always wanted to go to Moscow. Perhaps I'll fly out and give you a hand with the fix!
  20. How many miles are on your car? Seems unlikely that you would need plugs and coil packs if you have low mileage. I would think you would have to use the Porsche PIWIS tester to diagnose the issue further.
  21. No still have the stock stereo. I searched prior to posting but then searched more and I think its more likely the worn bushings mentioned in this post: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1728 The only odd thing is it does it when the car is parked. So if it is worn bushings perhaps my car is now an earthquake detector. :P :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  22. Use the search tool. There are many threads on this subject.
