  1. There is no idle valve on a MY99 C4 - all C4's had egas. Thanks Loren, I didn't know that about the C4's
  2. BTW. Sweet Boxster! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  3. Clean the idle valve as well. It is easy and you should find a thread if you do search.
  4. This might sound obvious but check your rear wheel lugs. I had this happen on my old car when my so called "mechanic" (ex mechanic) forgot to torque the lugs on one side after a brake service.. It made a clunk sound when I would come to a hard stop.
  5. Thanks everyone for their input ;) So I have the AASCO LWFW. So I would be good using the 2003 disk, pressure plate and TOB? Also when looking at prices for the kits there are different choices with much different prices. Any input on this? Here is a link for several Sachs direct replacement kits. The top one is least expensive and seems to be the correct OEM replacement. Is this the one I want? I still of course have the 2000 trans. I don't track the car. http://www.racepages.com/products/?D=porsc...63236&Nty=1 Thanks! :renntech:
  6. Take a look at this post.. He is putting a 3.8 S motor in his 99 996. Much bigger job than yours would be. Maybe he can answer some questions for you. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...rt=#entry134936
  7. Most places that do conversions will not sell their software. They figure that they have done the R&D and their not going to provide it unless they do the conversion. Todd should be able to guide you on this..
  8. Wonder if someone could tell me which clutch kit I should buy when it comes time to do my clutch. My car is a 2000 996 which had the 3.4. I put in a 2003 3.6. Should I buy the 2000 3.4 replacement or the 2003 3.6 replacement? Is there much difference? Are they interchangable? Thanks in advance. Phillip
  9. Itacud, Sounds like you are cleared for take off :jump:
  10. I know that Todd (username THOLYOAK) Put a 3.8 in his Boxster. He has more knowledge than anyone regarding these conversions. He has posted many threads and has helped others with their conversions. I also considered putting a 3.8 in my 996. The engine cost was too prohibitive mostly because I didn't have a 3.8 core to exchange. From what I understand you may have to beef up the driveshaft with the 3.8. You are putting a lot more power to a drivetrain that was not designed for it. As far as the electronics I have no idea. From what I have read you should be able to use the 7.8 DME. I know there are other issues but I'm not knowledgable enough to discuss them. Todd actually took the time to figure out all of these obstacles (plumbing and electronic) and make it work. It's not plug & play that is for sure. Good luck with whatever you decide to do and please update the forum on your progress! Succes!
  11. Dharn55, Glad to hear that you are getting close to being back on the road again. Thanks for the update and great problem solving. Keep us updated on the your progress! :drive:
  12. Good luck, I hope you get it sorted. B)
  13. Besides your mishaps that is great info! Thanks ! :renntech:
  14. Scottiemac, I guess you are talking about the part that is on either side of the clamshell. That is not the part I had an issue with and I don't believe it could harm your top. I believe that part just keeps debris from getting in when the top is down. If it is the one in my post just buy a new one. They are cheap and easy to install. (Once you have mastered those freakin Porsche screw /rivet things. ) Here are the part numbers from this PET diagram http://www.autoatlanta.com/model/996-99-05/811-12.htm Item #9 996 561 265 01 Trim cover (main part) 999 591 941 40 Expansion rivet (2) Phillipj
  15. Just let us know if you need any volunteers to help you get that GT3 out of the garage more often. :D We are here to help :clapping:
  16. You are correct sir! I had this exact thing happen to mime. Here is the link that will answer all your questions and give you the part number. Read the entire thread. Make sure to order new fasteners as well. Sunset will have everything you need. The new part comes complete and assembled. Is about $25.00. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...rotection+plate :renntech:
  17. Did you replace the entire arms or just the bushings? Thanks!
  18. If the smoke cloud is very large and white it could be your AOS. Do a search here on AOS.. You will get lots of information. Agree with RFM, change to the correct oil first...
  19. Excellent :clapping:
  20. I wonder if people that own other brands of sports cars talk about "warm up procedures" as much as we do :D It's a road car... Even freakin F1 engines that rev to 18k don't have warm up period. (Yeah I know they only have to last 2 races.) I think we get too paranoid thinking that a Porsche engine will explode if we don't treat it like a moody female. Just drive it and use common sense. Okay now you can blast me...
  21. I don't believe it is neccessary to unplug your battery. You really should use the "MAF" cleaner but other have used the cleaner you used with success. Just re install and see if you have solved the problem. Good luck I hope it works and congrats on the DIY!
