  1. Looks beautiful!! Nice job. :clapping: Awesome you could do that yourself. Be sure to post more pictures when you get the rears done..
  2. I have a 997 and have no indentation on my trunk (nor was there one on my previous 996's.) I detail the crap out of my car constantly so I know every imperfection. Where exactly do you see this on your trunk? Can you post a picture? Has this been there and I haven't noticed it? Highly unlikely......
  3. Awesome! Thats is great news and congrats on doing the work yourself :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  4. Roock :o :o :o :o Run away Boo scary! Don't say that name in this forum. Don't let any member have the possibility of getting involved with that weasel.
  5. +1 ...Just buy a GT3
  6. I have a friend in OC that highly recommends Vision Motorsports. I know they do good work and they have a very good reputation. Not sure about their prices though. You may want to call them and get a quote for your clutch. Here is a link to their websiite... They are strictly Porsche. www.visionmotorsports.com
  7. Phillipj, It looks very close from I can tell. I haven't had the car next to an original yet but if I can ill get some pictures of it next to a Porsche with the OEM red calipers. -Ben Thanks Ben :D
  8. Is the VHT red a close match to the red that Porsche uses?
  9. Dwiggy, You did an awesome job. Maybe when we meet you can tell me about how I could change my interior lights to Xenon color. That is so cool. B) Thanks for the write up! Great job! :clapping:
  10. If you do a search here you will find threads on failing oil pressure sensors. Seems to be a relatively common failure. From what I recall it's a pretty easy fix as well.
  11. Sorry I can't help you with that. Me not smart enough...
  12. Great information! Thanks to everyone. Geoff, I will take you up on that offer ;)
  13. To enable the PSE to be on all the time pull the vacuum hiose with the red arrows. Make sure to plug both open connections to prevent debris. Loren, I had the is picture saved from RennTeam.com. If that is not allowed my apologies and you can delete my post. Phillipj
  14. Although I would never do it... I have to admit it looks pretty freakin cool.. Just one question though.. Why is the car being painted with the bumper covers on it? Flame me if it wasn't...
  15. Excellent. I hope you find the perfect car. This site will be invaluable in keeping it up and not spending a lot of cash. Good luck and post pics when you get it!!
  16. I have an extra one of these shift knobs if anyone wants it. PM me and I will send it to you if you want to experiment. Make me a token offer  and pay the shipping and it's yours. It's black leather and in good condition. It's off my old 99 996. Phillip
  17. What are planning on paying for this car? Please do a search here and read about the early 996 engines. You have to realize what you are getting yourself into. There are many, many 99's for sale so make sure you do some shopping and by all means educate yourself. You would be better off spending more money and going for a 2002 or newer. The 996 M96 engine is not an M3. Although BMW's can be money pits as well (have had several) their engines tend to go for well over 150k miles. Don't expect most of the 99 M96 engine to that. This does not include the Turbo or GT3 (which are different engines.) Do your research and visit Jake Raby's website to learn about issues with these engines. A new rebuilt from Porsche will cost you about $12 to 14K. So your $18K car can now cost you $32k and stil be worth $18k. :o Just my 2 cents. And yes I have had one blow up (but also had one that was bullet proof.) Good luck
  18. My shoulders are in bad shape. :o Having a black car now I'm constantly waxing and maintaining the paint. I want to buy an electric buffer to do some of the work for me. Does anyone have a suggestion on what to buy? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
  19. I have found one thing that has helped. If I play CD's from the record company the sound is dramatically better. Downloaded compressed files from the internet are complete garbage. I have a friend that is a DJ and does some pretty big sound shows. He has relectanly had to give up his viynl. When I asked him about the compressed files sounding like crap he said "oh yeah" they are terrible". At his shows He said "the kids don't know any better and the adults are too drunk to care". :D Technology hmmm... So at least I know I won't be burrning any CD's for the car. I'll just pay up and get the "factory" CD......
  20. Before you get too worried wait until your new guy looks at it. Then worry or not  Could just be your AOS.. I hope you get good news
  21.   :clapping:
  22. Just changed the filter. A couple things that I would pay attention to... The two rubber grommets that go around the two "feet" of the airbox. One of mine was missing (obviously for the last filter change.) They are easy to lose so make sure you keep track of them. Also there is a small vacuum hose that is not present on the 996. Make sure you detach that. It's right below the switch resonator (#1 in the DIY.) Payed $20 for a Mahle filter. Same exact filter and manufacturer without the Porsche name on the box. About a 45 minute job (depending on how anal you are about cleaning.) Amazing a dealer charges $225 for this. :o I'm in the wrong business. :D Great time to change your polyrib drive belt if it's due (and clean your throttle body.)
  23. Perhaps the best thing for you to do is have them professionally installed. If you don't do it properly they will look bad and you will have to have it done again anyway. Another problem is if they are used skirts they can deform and not fit properly again. DO NOT use epoxy. DO Not drill holes in the side of your car. Try to find a good (high end) body shop in your area with experience in body kits and have them take a look at it. Good luck
