  1. Just get the OEM one form Sunset or Suncoast. Not worth the headache for a few bucks IMHO. A lot of crap on E Bay...
  2. I don't know about the 2010 Turbo but almost all modern Porsches can have the service indicator turned off by the Durametric tool. Most mechanics have one... My indi mechanic will clear my service alerts/codes for free. Loren may know the facts here with the 2010 Turbo. Here is a link to Durametrics website. Maybe you can contact them.. Sweet car by the way..... http://www.durametric.com/default.aspx
  3. I think 2000 was the last year too have tubes... Loren would know for sure...
  4. That thread is 6 years old now. Hopefully he has fixed the problem
  5. I'm sorry.. I guess there is the chance that you"ll get it back. Kinda hard to fence race parts.. Too obvious and rare.. Do you think it could be someone you know?
  6. I like the 997 OEM stock shifter. My friend has the 997 factory short shift kit but I like the throws better in the stock version. Just my 2 cents..
  7. How was it stolen? Was it in your gararge or a storage place? Seems kind of unusual to steal a race car.. Much harder to hide the parts. Man that really s#@ks. I'm in the Pasadena area and l'll let the community know that your car has been nabbed. It's insured right??
  8. Aliballan, Yes it does cancel the on/off function in the Sport Chrono. The PSE is loud all the time. Which I think is the way the car should sound..... Even my wife thinks it sounds awesome.... Look forward to what you think of the Softtronic ...
  9. Strange that your dealer can't tell you.... From what I have heard there will be no major changes in the 911 until the 998 comes out. But I have been wrong before.....
  10. Could be your shift cables. I don't know how the shop could have messed with those but anything is possible. If it is your cables it's a cheap and quick fix.
  11. Aliballan, If you want the PSE on all the time (like I do) just disconnect the orange connector shown in the photo. You can disconnect the hose as shown in the photo too for the same effect. Disconnecting the orange connector is much easier. Zip tie it to a nearby cable and cover the electrical ends so debris doesn't get in them. I use the fingers of latex gloves and made little "condoms" for the connector ends. Super easy to switch back to stock if you want to..
  12. GT3! I have an 06 997S and have driven an 09 997S and the 07 GT3.. The GT3 wins hands down. No question about it as long as you can deal with the stiffer suspension of the GT3.. The GT3 Power and handling are freakin amazing. I have not driven the Turbo but I know it must be awesome as well. Will be replacing my 997 S with a GT3 next year. Good luck with whatever you decide. You will not be dissapointed with whatever you choose that's for sure..
  13. I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I had an engine replacement at one time as well. If you do a serch there are a lot of threads on this subject. just recently someone posted some info on competent shops in Canada for a rebuild etc. Good luck..
  14. CabC2, Hey it's Phillip. Sounds like exactly what happened to my last 996. First the engine ...Then the Tranny. I'm so sorry to hear about this. My advice is to do what I did. Take the car out back and shoot it in back of the head. Seriously...You may want to fix it but I would get another car. After the tranny it will be more things.... It is a money pit. Low mile 06 997's can be had for a very good price. I took a huge financial hit when I traded mine in but I have no regrets. My 997 is awesome and I have no issues (and a warranty if I do.) I just enjoy it... I'm sure others may disagree about your situation. That's my 2 cents... Again, sorry to hear about your tranny.....
  15. "Porsche Top Brand in J.D. Power and Associates Dependability Study Atlanta, March 18, 2010 - According to a quality study by J.D. Power and Associates, Porsche continues to meet and exceed the long-term quality demands of its customers in the United States.Porsche recorded the top score of all brands surveyed in the J.D. Power and Associates 2010 Vehicle Dependability StudySM.The study measured problems experienced by original owners of three-year-old (2007 model year) vehicles, including 198 different problem symptoms across all areas of the vehicle. Overall dependability is determined by the level of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality.Based on this measurement, Porsche had the fewest problems and was the top brand in this important dependability study."For Porsche this is very significant," said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. "It confirms that our cars meet the full spectrum of our customers' very demanding expectations well into the ownership experience."According to J.D. Power and Associates, among new-vehicle shoppers, perception of quality and dependability is the most influential factor in their decision to purchase a specific vehicle model."
  16. Kn8dl. Unlike the 996 there is no bolt holding down the airbox on the 997. it just rests on that post that Loren showed aided by two posts that sit on rubber grommets on the bottom of the box. Be sure that you don't lose the rubber grommets on the feet of the box (there are two) They tend to fly off when you pull the box out.
  17. "engine bay bling" I like that..... Yes it is expensive. Haven't really thought about how it would hold up.... Have to do some more research. Thanks for the heads up on the sale!
  18. Do a search.. Lots of threads on tires....
  19. Gentlemen, Found this airbox mod for the 997-1. It looks like it's beautifully made. And no, I don't believe it will give me 15hp Just thought it was a nice alternative to the X-51 which requires quite a bit of modifications.. Anyone have this box or can give any feedback? I'm such a sucker for carbon........ Thanks! http://www.carbonio.com/performance/brand/porsche/996_intakekit.html#downloads
  20. Is there any outside differences btw the Targa 4 and the Targa 4s besides the quad tail pipe and the badge? Mechanically the 4S has the 3.8 engine as well as suspension changes and bigger brakes. But cosmetically I don't think so... (I could be wrong on this and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am.) The car does not have PCM can I install the OEM PCM afterwards? What parts do I need? This would be very cost prohibitive and does not make any sense. The standard steering wheel is too thin? Is the sport steering wheel thicker? Can I easily install the sport steering wheel afterwards? Yes you can get a sports wheel for about $2k+ Try to find a car with the wheel you want already on it.. Can I install the PSE in this car? What is the part number? Try to find a car that already has PSE. Porsche has tripled the price lately and does not make financial sense to add on later. Theere are other after market exhausts to chosse if you want to spend that kind of cash.. Hope this helps!
  21. Use the search tool here. search "Boxster maitenance" and you will find a lot of helpful information.. Here is another link you will find very useful.. http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site/DIY_Projects.html
