  1. It's going to be a problem for you owning a Porsche if $150 bucks is out of your budget. Unfortunetly your starter is not going to be the last thing that you'll have to replace. Owning an older 996 requires some emergency cash. Good luck with your top. I would go with Fill_Up's reco and get a new plastic sewn in..
  2. They are all plastic letters with adhesive on the back. They are easy to remove with a hairdryer. There is no "permanent' badging on modern P cars. Loren has the demensions (when reapplying the new badge) to make sure you line it up correctly. Good luck!
  3. Likely suspect is your ignition switch. When they go bad they cause all kinds of strange electrical behaviors. Do a search here. An easy and inexpensive repair.., Also check your battery. If it's over 4 years old it's probabaly on it's way out.. Good luck.
  4. Sorry to hear that Sam. Sounds very unusual. Hopefully Porsche will make good on the repairs. Please keep us updated..
  5. Thanks for the feedback.. Very useful. I have been considering the Softronic. It's nice to hear some honest results..
  6. It was the oil cooler..... I'm very happy for you!
  7. Sam, Coil sounds like a likely suspect. They are known to crack and fail. They will produce all kinds of problems. Good luck and let us know once you get the car to your mechanic.
  8. I have to laugh at this one, If you did a search you'd be amazed how many of use have warned about this possibility. All because we have hit ourselves in the face doing it as well.... Congrats on the new car and please post some pics (when you get your stitches out.)
  9. At least there is no intermix in the crankcase. Interesting that you have lost that much oil though.. Kudos to Dharn55 and Sehorntx. You guys rock.
  10. Your chances of an IMS failure in an 06 are very unlikely. I wouldn't be too concerned about that. Hope it turns out to be a minor problem.
  11. Mark, I'm not sure on this.. I'm sure someone with more suspension knowledge than me can confirm or deny their compatability. I just remember that this topic came up before and that the GT3 springs will not work with the 997 sport shocks.. Good luck!
  12. Yes you have a problem...... DO NOT START OR DRIVE THE CAR. Look at your oil dipstick and see if water has mixed with your oil (it will look like pancake batter.) If it has you have large problem. Could be a cracked head or a blown freeze plug. This means a rebuild or an engine replacement. Your dealer will only offer the replacement.. This happened to my 2000 Carrera so I know... If there is no water in your oil you may have been spared. You could have a broken oil cooler. Not as big of a deal. In any case get your car to your mechanic asap. Please update this post and I hope for the best.
  13. I'm sorry but I have to agree with Juaquin. There is no excuse for the number of failures of M96 engines. Porsche knew they had a design problem and waited 10 years to rectify it. If there were no design problems there would be no market for Jake Raby and others. I agree that when you buy a sports car you have to expect more cost and maintainence. But not engine failures with normal use... I'm against frivolous lawsuits but this one would have merit. If a drug maker hides flaws and dangers in drug but releases it anyway they should be responsible. Same goes for Porsche. They knew they had a major problem and ignored it and covered it up. I love these cars but I would NEVER own one without a warranty. Been down that road before.. That's my 2 cents anyway...
  14. No.. Some people just like the red. Same with 997. You can get the "S" in red if you want.
  15. I'm going to have to agree with Judgejon, My Potato head without question..And a very collectable mustache at that.. Seriously... Doesn't look like a Porsche part to me.....
  16. Is it just 2nd gear? Does it feel like the clutch is slipping? Do you have any grinding like a bad synchro? Or is it just lack of power? If it's just power I would have your mechanic check to see if it has thrown any codes. Only the codes will tell you where to start troubleshooting. Good luck
  17. $160 to tow 31 miles $65 for the mechanic to open it up, check the marks were in place, rotate the engine, and start it up! All in all, an expensive oil change, but not actually much more than the dealer would charge (thanks RFM, JFP, all) Awesome...I like happy endings..
  18. Mark, I'm not quite sure I know the answer to your question but I believe that the GT3 springs are different and not compatible with the stock 997 shocks. You might want to call the guys at Suncoast and ask them. The are "mod" savy and can be really helpful. I'm also curious about your question so please update your post if you get an answer.
  19. I just got GT3 rear bar installed on my '06 997 C2 several days ago with tarett links and I all can say - I do not understand why car did not come originally like this. They should have simply used GT3 suspension on all cars they make. I used middle mount points so far but difference is really very noticeable. Hi utkinpol, I'm thinking of doing the same. Questions: Did you install both front and rear? How thick is your GT3 sway bar (Fr/Rr)? How thick were the originals (Fr/Rr)? Thanks, Ken You must read the original post... "got rear GT3 sway bar with tarett droplinks, now I want to put front 997 GT3 swaybar as well - could anybody confirm if it requires tarett droplinks as well or may be mounted with stock C2 droplinks? "
  20. The Fabspeed is better quality and fits better. The Schnell's "plastic cap" for the airbox does not fit well.. But.... They both do the same thing. You will get a throatier sound. There are no performance gains.. Hope this helps
  21. No it wont. If you installed a K&N cold air kit or similar that may cause a problem with your dealer but not the red hose.
