  1. This is awsome. Troy Lee did the artwork.. Celebrates Porsches history at Le Man... Flying Lizard Reveals Special Livery for Team's First Two-Porsche Le Mans Program Troy Lee's Design Celebrates History of Porsche at Le Mans Cliquez ici pour le français June 1, 2011 – Flying Lizard revealed today a commemorative livery for the No. 80 and No. 81 Flying Lizard Porsches for the 2011 24 Heures du Mans. Created by California-based artist Troy Lee, the livery celebrates the history of Porsche at Le Mans, featuring the 28 drivers who have won the 24 Heures du Mans overall in a Porsche. The No. 80 and No. 81 designs are identical, implemented in complementary colors: candy metallic orange for the No. 80 and candy metallic blue for the No. 81; both anchored by a deep ocean blue. Primary colors provide a backdrop for the driver names and flags which weave throughout the design on the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Read the story >
  2. You might be better served to just use the money to upgrade your IMS.. These cars are pretty dam reliable for the most part. If you take care of them and do the maintenance you shouldn't have any problems. You can do almost all of the service requirements yourself unless your retarded.. Less that $100 bucks at Harbor Frieght and you'll have almost all the tools you need. Call LN engineering and see if there is a shop in your area that can do the IMS upgrade for you.. That's what I would do. Warranties are expensive and there are a lot of bad companies out there If you want to do the research "Easy Care" has a good reputation. http://www.easycare.com You can also talk to mechanics and see how they react to different warranty companies as well. Enjoy your new toy.. She is a beauty..
  3. Awesome.. You will be very happy with the effect on the car with the flash. It really transforms the car. The Europipe exhaust has a great reputation .. Unfortunely these are expensive lessons we learn. Enjoy your new toy.. It's a beauty!:clapping:
  4. Right now might be time to stop and start thinking before you have regrets. (ask me how I know.) First of all Fabspeed lies and their turbo exhaust is notorious for it's nasty resonance. Their intake will give you nothing. It's waste of money. Be very careful with the flash as well. I have the GIAC in my car it it works well. Remember that turbo cars can get very troublesome with extensive modding. There is a member here with a 2003 996 TT with over 300,000 miles on it. he still has the original engine, tranny and clutch. The only was this is possible is that he never modded ANYTHING.. I was just like you.. I got my stock turbo and started bolting on anything I could find for more power. I did the flash which was awesome. I put on a Techart exhaust..again awesome. But then I added a Larger plenum and a GT3 throttle body. Then EVOMS BRV valves (diverter valves on the 996.) And of course the infamoous BMC air filter. I was talking to my friend who builds race engines for P cars. He told me that the paper flows just as well and the mesh oiled filter. He said actually better! He does not condone oiled filters for street cars.. Boy the filter companies sure have us fooled! Well the TB and plenum and BRV valves caused so many problems I just returned everything (BRV valves and stock TB and plenum and air filter) to stock and now the car runs perfect. Now I have very expensive paper weights...Not to mention the install and re install labor costs.. You don't need new boost hoses with 19k miles. Go ask a tech how often stock boost hoses fail. They don't... The aftermarket tells 997 turbo owners that their OEM BRV valves are a weak link on their turbos. That we should should upgrade to their better, stronger valves. Well again after I put them on my tech toild be he has never heard of those valves failing..ever.. In fact Porsche doesn't even sell them seperately for the turbos.. WTF? I fell for that? If you stick with the exhaust and a flash you'll be fine. If you go with the larger Turbo's, intercoolers etc.. Your looking at a very fast but very unreliable car that is going to be a PITA. Look at how much used highly modded Turbos go for. Much less than stock ones.. And for God sakes don't buy anything from VIVID racing.. They are an unsavory bunch.. Enjoy your car. With the chip and the exhaust you should be getting around 500 hp. Maybe that should be good enough.. Just my two cents brother..
  5. Turbo's are noisy as well...
  6. Awesome.. Great times!:clapping:
  7. Thanks for the add!

  8. $9800????:cursing: :cursing: :cursing: I got an extended Porsche CPO on my turbo (2 years, 100k miles) for $3,300. I'm with you... At that cost just put the money aside in case you need it...
  9. JCA3, Glad to her you have the upgrade already. Would be nice if Porsche would have designated which 05's they did the upgrade to...
  10. Great article Bill. Really interesting.. As I go through my life with Porsches I realize that most engine mods are a complete waste of money. There are some...Like your K & N intake that do make a difference. But not many. We men (at least me) are like children.. We fall for the afternarket BS like naive school boys.. Unfortunetly most aftermarket stuff is garbage and should never go on your car. I think that Vivid Racing is probably the biggest culprit.:censored: I think the next time I want to "bolt something on" I will just "take something off" (that's already there) and put it back on again. Maybe that will quench my thirst for not "leaving well enough alone". Or maybe I should do what I did when I was a little boy and just get lots of cool "stickers" :clapping:
  11. Was it a hydraulic squeak or a mechanical squeak?
  12. GT3 engine has an Intermediate shaft? Am I stupid or isn't the Turbo and GT3 engine a completely different design from the M96?
  13. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  14. AP 997s, I meant no disrespect to your car  .. I have other friends with 05's that have had no issues as well. But Porsche has "good willed" new engines many times on "out of warranty" 05's. So they know there is a problem. I was just trying to tell the prospective buyer to look at the 06+ because of the updated IMS. Just one less thing to worry about. I have had a 996 blow up. Wasn't real happy about that...:cursing: My your Carrera run forever!
  15. Loren is right. Not til 06 did Porsche upgrade the IMS.. Even with an 06 I suggest getting a car with a warranty. Just good insurance.. Good luck!
  16. My advice would be to step up and get an 06+. The 05's have engine issues and should be avoided. If you must have an 05 make sure it''s a CPO car. Believe me...You don't want to go through the dreaded "engine replacement" on one of these cars "out of pocket". If you have a CPO warranty and the engine goes it will cost you nothing. I will never have another P car without a Porsche warranty.. Good luck. There are lots of cars out there. Be patient and you will find what you want...
  17. Congratulations! That is an awesome car. I think the speed yellow looks better with the aero kit.. Enjoy your new toy...:clapping: :welcome:
  18. Thank you sir!
  19. I have had the same problem with my 2001 996 TT. It is a squeaking sound with a squishy feeling - very annoying. My dealer told me it is a non-critical problem with the clitch cylinder that is way too expensive to replace unless absolutely necessary - so I learned to live with it :( You should go to another mechanic. it's not that hard of a job and the part is not that expensive.. http://www.suncoastparts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?
  20. I had my accumulator go out in my 2007 Turbo. Same symptoms. Glad you got it fixed! Pretty common issue in the 996 and 997 turbo's from what I hear...
  21. I guess this would be a good question for Loren. Does Porsche offer an ROW suspension kit for the 07 997 Turbo? I want to upgrade my sway bars and I'd like to stick with Porsche parts if possible. Any input would be appreciated.
  22. Problem solved. It was the connection fro the throttle body to the "y" pipe. The boost literally "blew it off". It was hard to see at first visual inpection. Replaced the OEM clamp with a higher quality version to prevent it happening again. My tech came over and we replaced the fuel filter, upgraded the re curculation valves (Evoms) and added bung extensions the the O2 sensors. (This was to prevent the CEL from the 200 cell cats on the Techart exhaust.) My guy is amazing. Just a kid but he can work on these cars blind folded. He is really teaching me a lot.. All is good now. She tries to spin the tires in first and second gear.:clapping: Next project is front and rear sway bars. Stock turbo has a terrible "push" when entering corners...
  23. I have had the loss spark plug "chirp" sound. That was definitely more of a "chirp" than a "knock". You could check the plugs anyway just to be sure..
