  1. All it contains is a couple resistors. It fools your DME into thinking the car is always cold and makes it run lean. Fine when the car is cold but once your at temp it still tells the car to run lean... Very bad for your valves.. I had a similar device on my Turbo from a previous owner. I didn't know what it was. When my tech saw it (and another friend who has 3 bad *** turbos) they said "take that off now".. And nothing "plug and play" will give a normally aspirated 996 60 hp...Or 50 or 40 or even 30... :eek:
  2. I have a very good friend who is a tech on Range Rovers, Bentleys etc... Range Rovers? Errrrrr.... Lets just say that they (RR's) are... Ummmmm. Horrible? Many of my friends have those cars, CONSTANTLY in the shop...Yet they still love them. I don't get it...Terribly underpowered pieces of whatever.. People want to race me in my Turbo in those boats... How insulting... If you want nice leather go to Louis Vuitton.... Perhaps the new smaller generation is better...I doubt it.... I probably get flamed for this but I'll take the reliability and fun of my Porsche any day...
  3. Interesting on the turbo the sound is exactly the same as a stock filter. I did notice a sound difference on my 996 though... Guess it just depends on how anal you are about these things. If you change your oil every 4 or 5k I 5hink you'll be fine with an oiled filter. My tech (who is amazing) at my dealer HATES HATES HATES anything that is not factory. He even tried to tell me that my stock exhaust flows better than my Tech Art. Yeah right.. Also that my ECU flash isn't worth the money... Yeah right... (The car was transformed after the exhaust and the flash.) I love the guy but he's a religious Porsche tech... I guess my point is he HATES oiled filters..... Will that be paper of plastic? :cheers:
  4. I am neither a proponent or hater of the oiled filters. I have tried the BMC on my Turbo and the stock filter back to back.. Absolutely no difference in power. But this is what puzzles me... Every tuner I have spoken to recommends the BMC in conjunction with other mods on a Turbo car... These are not stupid people or people trying to sell me an air filter. So why is this? I know the filter makes no more power than the stock filter.... Yet everyone is unaminous in saying it does? Any comments? By the way... I have never had an issue on any of my cars (BMW or Porsche) with an oiled filter...

  6. And that the Range Rover costs you WAY MORE than the 996 ever did.. Sorry to hear you had so many issues with your 996. My P cars have all been incerdibly trouble free.. Hopefully you'll be back! Good luck to you!

  8. That's a really common failure on both the 996 and 997 TT... It shouldn't trouble you again..
  9. He said your Boxster is a V-6??????? A Porsche mechanic? Are you serious? You do not have a "V-6". Did you get an inspection of the car bedfore you bought it? It doesn't sound like there is anything wrong with your car besides the way you are driving it.. Drive it hard... Why are you babying it? Shift right before redline.. That's what it is made for.. I take my Turbo on short trips everyday (same with my past Porsches.) That is not really an issue unless you never get the car up to temperature... If you're convinced you have a problem take your car to a reputable Porsche shop and have them test the AOS and check for fault codes..
  10. Rear bumper cover removal to replace air filters.. That seems a bit rediculous. They should make them attach like the nose on an F1 car.. Two fasteners and its's off.... Cant wai to see all the "How do I remove my rear bumper cover on my 991?" questions on the boards in the future....

  12. Agree with Logray.. Have the dealer take care of it.. Your still under warranty....Don't mess with it yourself...
  13. I would imagine they are a Porsche wheel.. I can't imagine another manufacturer making a Centerlock 20 inch wheel for a Turbo... Not exactly a huge market for that..... I have never seen this wheel before...I'm in L.A. like you and it seems like I would have seen these... Interesting.. You could contact the guys at Wheel Enhancement and ask them. Send them the Picture and they will know the orgins of this wheel..

  15. Glad I have a Turbo now so I don't have to think about the "IMS" delimma... JFP.. Since your in the repair business, how have the first gen DFI engines fared? I haven't heard much about them (as far as issues.)

  18. Even Porsche (in their own way) admit there were many issues with the 2005 engines. That's why they have replaced so many engines (gratis) out of warranty. The 05's have the same IMS design as the 996 and that's a very weak link. 06's through 08's have the updated IMS. Not that it can't fail either but it's an improvement.. I had a 996 blow up by the way... It's not very mich fun... :cursing:
  19. This kind of Porsche BS makes me crazy... I have heard similiar crud from my techs about my car on various issues. All of them turning out to be falsehoods... I guess they think we are really stupid....
  20. Great job! Looks very nice. :thumbup: And I'm sure sounds WAY better than the crap Bose system. The Bose "premium sound" in my Turbo is a joke.. Really bad... Thanks for the pictures...
