  1. Loren, I'll take a pic of the leak and post it. Thanks for the reply Phillip
  2. I posted this question before so I apologize. I have a 99 996 with 67k. Has anyone replaced (DIY) their cam cover gaskets? If so, is it labor intensive? Is it something I can do myself or should I have the shop do it? My drivers side cam cover is leaking and seems to be getting worse. Upon visual inspection it seems like I could do it myself. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks! Phillipj
  3. Great work! Awesome Car! I love the skirts and everything else you did... I have skirts on my 996 that need to be replaced. The original idiot that put them on ruined them (they don't fit well and now they are deformed so I can't fix them.) How was the install on the skirts and what did you pay on E-aaBay for them? Thanks and your car looks sweet! Phillip
  4. Electricguru, Could be the water causing the light. With 24k and no brake work you probably need pads. Super easy DIY. Do search for "brake pad replacement". Lots of threads here. You can do a visual to see how much pad you have left. Make sure to do it before you harm the rotors. Phillipj
  5. Beautiful work!
  6. Todd, Great to hear you ar happy with the mods!! Also happy you like the Fabspeeds since I recommended them! Glad to be of help and enjoy your toy! Phillipj
  7. USMCfree, Here is a link for that http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...l=coolant+flush Phillipj
  8. This topic came up a while ago with a fellow with a 996. I had the same noise and was concerned. The culprit turned out to be a loose spark plug. I torqued mine down and the chirp sound vanished. The other fellow's mechanic told him that his crankshaft was out of balance and would require a new engine! Oh my!!! Make sure to do all your research. There is a thread here with a sound bite that illustrates the chirping sound. I'll see if I can find it and post it. Hope this helps Phillipj
  9. That is awesome. I don't think I have heard of that mileage on a 99 996 (which I own.) Nice to hear good news on this car. Mine has been very reliable in the past 3 years. Thanks for that post! Phillipj
  10. Roundtree, I beg to differ on the Fabspeed CAI. I have had one for over 3 years with a K&N filter and never had a MAF problem EVER. It seems highly unlikely that a silicon hose can foul a MAF. Sure there is no HP gain but the sound is great. Just my experience, Cheers, Phillipj
  11. My 996 has been doing that noise for years (only on start up) I'm in agreement wih the heat shield theory. I have had my friend start the car with me standing in the back with the engine cover open. The sound comes from the muffler area on mine. Phillipj
  12. I love the GT3 front! The rear spoiler is a bit too big for my taste but your car looks awesome. Congrats on the new toy! Check out this rear bumper kit I found on a 997. It's pretty sweet. This could be my new car. I'm negotiating now....... Phillipj
  13. What a beauty!! Love the silver console. Congratulations! Phillipj
  14. I'm not sure if you're still looking for a replacement, but I was directed to http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html. I reached out to them and they were very responsive. I'm not a customer (yet), but moving in that direction. Best of luck! The factory trim is super expensive (IMO). Chuck, Here is the link to the splitter you may be looking for from MA Shaw. http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html It's not rubber like on the 997. Maybe someone else makes one. Might want to try these guys as well. I have their kit on my 996. http://www.nrauto.com/sub_index.asp?makeid...p;spage=Submain Good luck and sorry to hear about the damage. Phillipj
  15. Billyc, I hope you find out the cause of the codes. I hope your not in for a new engine (unless your warranty covers it.) Please let us know how everything turns out. Thanks for the reply, Phillipj
  16. Billyc, Seems highly unlikely that the car would run strong with a broken intermediate shaft. Look forward to what you find out! Dealers... Hmmmmm. If you knew about the RMS, how much did you pay for the car? Just curious. Phillipj
  17. Lee, Glad to hear that it wasn't serious!! Phillipj
  18. I'm sorry but I really don't understand. Does it leak? Smoke? Give all kind of error codes? I have a 99 996 with 67k on it. My passenger seat shakes a little as well. It doesn't bother me. It runs perfectly. My car is fast, fun and I love it everytime I drive it. The cam covers leak a little as well. I have seen many posts here with 996 engines with 120k and over that are still running strong. I don't think you should be concerned. A good tech can inspect the motor for you but make sure you trust his feedback. Can you be more specific about why you are so concerned? Hopefull other members can give some advice on tests. Take care Phillipj
  19. Thank you Loren! Phillipj
  20. Does anyone know the part number for the plastc piece that covers the Pollen filter? I need the battery cover as well. The car is a 99 996 C2. Thanks in advance, Phillipj
  21. Phillipj: 30 + 3 Nm (22+2 Ft. Lbs.). Thank you!
  22. Wow this is amazing, My 996 has been making exactly the same sound recently. It's intermittant and doesn't do it everytime i drive the car. I was telling my wife about it and she said "why don't you ask the guys on that website you always are on?". To think that a mechanic would want to replace the motor is really scary. This site is worth it's weight in gold. I will make another contribution! Question: What is the proper Ft lbs of torque for the spark plugs? Thanks for this thread! Phillipj
  23. I have a 99 996 and have a K&N filter and have never had a problem with my MAF in 3 years. There must ne a cause for your re occuring problems. Phillipj
  24. I paid $800 for everything from an indie except the air filter and pollen filter. That included belts and trans fluid and oil ETC. The dealer is a criminal. Next time I will do it myself as well. Phillipj
  25. Have you looked at any of these? May not be what your looking for. http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html Phillipj
