  1. Great news! Glad that you had success!! Hope the picture helped. Phillipj
  2. Same powerplant but with 4 wheel drive... A lot more weight. I personally like to be able to get the rear end lose if I want to (C2S). It is in the end though your personal preference. Like Summoboy said.. They are all awesome cars. Can't go wrong with any of them! Good luck and post some pics when you get one!!! Phillipj

    996 GT3 Mash Note

Thanks for such a great letter. I'm sure most of feel what you feel about the 911. I'm also in the market for a GT3. I'm pleased to hear your road to finally acquiring one. Enjoy it and please post some more pictures!! :clapping: Phillipj
  4. If it makes you feel any better I have a 99 996 C2 with 68k miles. I have had the car for over 3 years with no engine issues whatsoever except for replacing the spark plug tubes and re sealing the came cover bolts. ($225 = $50 in parts) I don't baby my car (except that is is always immaculate). I red line it frequently. I looked through reciepts from the previous 2 owners and there are no records of any engine issues. It runs extremely strong and has the original clutch. I agree that the bad news gets a lot more press than all the 996 motors that don't have problems. My car has never had an RMS issue and does not leak a drop of oil. Beware of mechanics that have "stories".... Especially dealers. My local dealer wanted to replace my friends 996 engine when in actuality the problem was a loose spark plug. Just wanted to pass along some good news instead of bad. I do like the idea of setting up an emergency fund. That's a good idea. Phillipj
  5. Go for the 996. Better car. I have heard that the GIAC software can void a warranty. Don't know for sure. Should ask a dealer if you can find one with a brain.
  6. Inverterman, I do covet your GT3. I may have an opportunity to acquire an 04 with just 800 miles on it. My friend is a wholesaler and has a client who need to get rid of the car asap. I may be able to get it for around 71 to 74k. I have never tracked my 996 C2 but if I get the GT3 it will definetly see the track. Good luck with the settings on your car. It's really beautiful. Phillipj
  7. Wow...The points just keep piling up. Has anyone had a good experience with these people?
  8. Sorry to be off topic but what an awesome car!! Phillipj
  9. Thanks Loren!~ That would have driven me crazy trying to make that work!
  10. Loren, Really? That is strange. There is a bulb on my right side and it appears to be wired. Thanks for the information. I looked in my manual and there was no mention of the fog lights only working on the drivers side on the U.S. cars. Would have been nice for them to mention that lol! Thanks again Phillipj
  11. Andymac, I don't know about the Turbo but on my 996 C2 3.4 (and my friends 997S) you do lose some low end torque. And like you said, they are very loud. On the 996 they make the car sound like a boat (not very nice) Not so much on the 997S. Never heard them on a Turbo. Doesn't Fabspeed have a sound clip on their site? One good thing is that the swap from the muffers to the pipes(and visa-versa) is really simple. You can easily do it yourself. Philipj
  12. I just realized that it is the rear fog light. The drivers side works but not the passenger side. Could it be a fuse? Thanks, Phillipj
  13. Thanks Flyer, I know it's not an ignition switch because I replaced that last year. It does seem strange that just one of the lights in the tail section pod is out. All the other lights work fine. I took a stock picture of a GT3 and circled which light is not working. This kind of stuff really bugs me! Thanks for your input Phillip
  14. 99 996 C2 I have a rear taillight out and I replaced the bulb but it still doesn't work. It's the bulb that lights the largest red area (passenger side) when the headlights are on. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem? The car has never had any electrical problems. Thanks! Phillipj
  15. Be very cautious on doing that job yourself unless you have experience. There have been many horror stories on this forum of folks who ended up having to replace the instrument cluster (which is big dollars) :o Just trying to save you some headaches! Phillipj
  16. Gatotiger, Like RFM said, make a hook out of wire and slide it under the gap of the taillight assembly. I have the day off today so I took a picture for you. This will at least give you an idea where to fish for it. You should be able to grab it with some patience. Hope this helps. Philipj
  17. Awesome pictures. Very nice. What front bumper is that? Is that the GT3 or an aftermarket? Thanks for the pictures. Really excellent. You did a great job. Beautiful car!!! :clapping: Phillipj
  18. Tommy, Beautiful car!!! Welcome! :renntech: Phillipj
  19. Way under 60k for the base Carrera and 59k to low 60's for the S. Go on Autotrader (for a start) and do a search for 05's with these price parameters. Oh and by the way.. Search out of your area. I don't know where you are located but I'm in Southern Cal. If I search out of my state I find better deals. I have found 05 S models with below 30k miles for 59k to 62 k. Be patient and wait until you find exactly what you are looking for. It's out there somewhere! :D Phillipj
  20. Go for the S but shop around more and get a better price. Just my 2 cents... Phillipj
  21. It is a switch that changes the engine mapping and makes the car run more aggressive. Go on to the Porsche website and look at the "Sport Chrono" option. Maybe it will give you a much more detailed expalnation. Or better yet go to a dealer and test drive one and see for yourself. It also has a little clock/stopwatch on the dash. Some people hate this. I have heard varing opinions whether the "Sport Chrono" option is worth the money. And no, this is not an option that you would want to add on later. Has to be ordered that way. As far as I have seen this option does not really effect the resale cost. The 05' S models are going for about the same price wether they are loaded with options or not. Hope this helps, Phillipj
  22. The "S" is a lot more car for about the same money when it comes to an 05'. I believe the S model has beefed up suspension and is available with the "Sport Chrono" package which the base Carrera doesn't offer. It just really depends on what you want. If it were me I would go for the S model. Some good deals out there. Just my 2 cents Phillipj
  23. Verrry Nice! And no, I don't think there is anything better.....
  24. Go to the Sunset Porsche Link under "Special Offers" (at the top of this page) and call them. Tell them to give you a price for all the components to do your brakes. Rotors , pads, caliper bolts, shims, Etc. See what price they give you. OEM rotors are about $119 a piece for the fronts. Phiilipj
  25. Those are some beautiful sisters!
