  1. Make sure you understand what you are getting with the Tech Art Wheels. They are very heavy and very expensive. Remeber that is "un-sprung" weight.. Depending how you drive your car it can make a big difference in handling. Although the Tech Art wheels look awesome you may want to do some research for other lightweight brands, Possibly HRE. Compare the weight with the "look". Just my 2 cents Phillipj
  2. Hank, I live in Pasadena. I have a great guy (my mechanic) that can get a good price on whatever you are looking for. He will also mount and balance them. PM me and I will give you his information. Phillip
  3. Thanks to both of you! I will try it over the weekend. Phillip
  4. I just bought a 2000 Cab and the original owner installed a Kenwood Excelon system in the car. Instead of compromising the rear center section for the sub woofer he installed it in the passenger side footwell with an aluminum grate to protect it. Although I would never have gone to these extremes for sound it looks nice and sounds great. The car has Porsche silver back GT seats that slide all the way back so even my wife (who is 5-10"tall) has enough leg room. Not the only solutuion but at least it keeps the integrity of the car without looking like a rice-burner. That Saturn picture makes me queasy... Phillipj
  5. 2000 996 Cab C2 Can someone guide me to stops to remove the center surround? Attached is a stock pic for reference. Thank you! Phillipj
  6. I just bought a 2000 cab with 65k on it. When the top is up it rattles and squeks so badly I can hardly stand it. I replaced the parts tha hook into the windshield anchor points. That got rid of one rattle but there are so many others. Is this normal? When the top is down the car has no rattles or squeaks. Is there any other fixes or things to check for these symptoms? I can't believe that Porsche would design a roof that would make this much noise. (if this is normal.) Any feedback would be gretaly appreciated. Thanks ! Phillipj
  7. See 996 TSB 4/03 6110, Rattling Noises From The Cabriolet Top, dated 5/23/03. The parts are about $60 from Sunset. I just helped a friend do this with his '99 cab and he said his rattles are gone. My post was here. Thanks Geoff! This site is awesome. Really appreciate your help Phillipj
  8. Just purchased a 2000 Cab C2. I have some questions regarding a few issues. 1. There is an extreme rattle coming from where the roof attaches to the windshield when the top is up when driving. I know that it shouldn't rattle like this. I'm sure this connection point gets worn with age. Is there a fix for this? A repair "kit" of some kind? The roof is in excellent condition. 2. How do I care for the roof? What is the best product to use? How often? Tips? 3. Any other advice for the Cabriolet would be greatly appreciated. I had a C2 coupe before this and just want to learn how to maintain the Cab properly. I'm super anal about maintanence and care. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Phillipj
  9. Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I agree that it is one of the best looking Cabs I have seen. Can't wait to get it. Regarding the IMS and RMS. The car does not leak a drop and the RMS was replaced with the clutch 10k ago. I did a lot of my own work on my last car so I was able to check the car out with some confidence I can't believe how much I miss my car. I know it was just plastic and metal but I feel like I lost my best friend. The torn tissues in both of my shoulders remind me of having more respect for my next car (and the law of physics). Going really fast is fun but the penalty for an error is severe to say the least. Hitting cement at over 100 MPH is not somthing I would wish on anyone. I should pick up the car next weekend. I'll post some more pics then. :renntech: Phillipj
  10. Yes it's had it's 60 k service and I spoke to the mechanic that has serviced the car the last two years. The owner is very anal anbout the care of the car. I want it now, I'm going through Porsche withdrawals. I Have to wait. Thanks for the comments and I will never drive that fast again unless I'm on a track. Phillipj
  11. I will. Thanks for the feedback!
  12. If it is a horrible "shrieking" sound than it is your starter. Does it do it every time or intermittant? Mine got more frequent as time went by. Better make sure because it can cause damage if not replaced. Phillipj
  13. Just wanted to show everyone the P car I found to replace my C2 coupe iI lost in an accident (my fault). It's a 2000 C2 Cab with lots of goodies. Body kit, GT seats, Fabspeed mufflers, rediculous Kenwood sound system, 19 in HRE wheels, new Sachs clutch with RMS replace and light flywheel, H&R springs, twin tip exhaust tips, smoke lenses front and back, xenons, custom foot pedals, 996 floor mats and more little stuff. Car is nealy perfect. Has some curb rash on the rear wheels which I'm going to repair immediately. Also has some paint chips on the front bumper. I got it for $30K with 60k miles. It Blue Books for $39k. All records and service and clean codes (no over revs) Clean report from my mechanic. Here are some pics. I was not looking for a Cab but this one was too good to pass up for the money. I'll pick it up in about a week. Have to wait for my check from the insurance company from the other car. Let me know what you think Phillipj
  14. Thanks everyone for your condolences. I feel so bad. They towed the car away to the insurance salvage yesterday. :cursing: Made me sick to see it like that. Will negotiate the settlement price with the insurance company next week. I'm going to look at a car tomorrow. It's a 2000 Cab with 911 badging with lots of expensive exterior mods. It also has all the Fabspeed goodies my other one had. It looks perfect and very unique. And the price is very fair. I will be patient. I'm a lot more informed Porsche buyer this time. I will definetly get the codes read for over-revs and such. I'll let you know what I found. Thanks again. I'm still mourning this one. :( Phillipj
  15. Thanks for the response. I guess the answer is faster than i should. It was a very scary moment. I believe that insurance will give me blue book which would be great. I'll have to wait and see. Thanks again Phillipj
  16. Oh My Last night I lost control going through a familiar tunnel. I bounced of both sides of cement walls like a pinball.. I'm quite fortunate to be alive. I have severet rauma to my head and neck but no broken bones or cuts. The car is totalled. I actually got airborn going backwards after the first impact. I really thought at that point that I may buy the farm. Then I hit so hard I can't even describe. I feel like I have lost my best friend. I loved that car. Now I must wait to see what the insurance company will give me. Then I will start the search for the new one. The car held up incredibly well. That s one well built car. Both doors still open and the engine still starts. It is easy to see that frame is bent. What a shame...
  17. Luckily RFM told me to clean the throttle body and the idle valve. The idle valve was packed with carbon. I cleaned everything out and now it idles perfectly!!! I'm so pleased that I was able to fix it myself. No MAF for me and I learned something. I will get the scanner though. That is something I definetly need to add to the tool box. Thanks for the input Phillipj
  18. 99 996 C2. Anyone able to tell me the best place to buy a MAF? Thanks ! Phillipj
  19. Anyone know where the best place is to buy a MAF for my 99 996 C2? Thanks
  20. 1999 996 C2 Started my car up today and the idle went to 2000 RPM and stayed there. The it started surging from 1000 rpm to 1500. It just surges over and over. I drove it thinking it might clear it up. It didn't...It has done this once before a few weeks ago and driving it at high revs made it run normally again. I went back home and cleaned the MAF and tried it again..Same problem. I disconnected the MAF and the surging stopped. re connected it and the surge started again. I don't have a code reader so I don't know what the fault codes could be. Could it be the MAF? I have never replaced it. Have had the car for over 3 years and I drive it almost everyday. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Phillipj
  21. Thanks! I will follow both of your leads and do the research. Appreciate the feedback. Phillipj
  22. Hello everyone, Started my car yesterday and the idle went to 2000 rpm. It stayed there...I flicked the throttle it it still wouldn't budge from 2k. Then it started surging from 1000 to 1500 rpm over and over.... I pulled it out of the driveway thought it might clear up if I got the revs up. It didn't. I went back home and cleaned the MAF and the throttle body and butterfly. I started it up and it still surged from 1000 to 1500 over and over.... I went out and drove it again and went through the gears at higher revs. Then it stopped......................... Everything was normal. :clapping: Any idea what causes this? I recall another post a while ago with someone complaining of the same problem. Would appreciate any feedback. By the way, I have a stock air box and filter so it's not oil fouling the MAF. Thanks in advance Phillipj
